If Lyles became a stud, would you ship out Gobert or Favors?

Well first of all this is like a massive massive irrational what if. But to roll with it, you keep Gobert and ship out Favors for back up defensive C and some more backcourt depth. With Lyles being the player he would become in your scenario, the floor isn't much more spreadable anyway and Gobert gives you that defensive anchor.

Why is it irrational? The kid is 19 (20?) and looked awesome quite a few times this year. Wouldn't shock me at all if he became a 20ppg guy.

Lyles plays too soft, it seems he avoids contacts. If he will further improve and play with some toughness than maybe the Jazz could consider to trade Gobert or Favors.

If Lyles plays like he did the last month or so ALL of next year AND steps up his defense then you put this idea on the table.

Quite frankly the pieces The Jazz need (solidifying the bench with 2 or 3 dependable players) to become competitive shouldn't come at the expense of sacrificing Favors or Gobert - it would just take a more of a financial commitment by the FO

With the offensive player that Lyles currently projects to be, this is a question that may have to be answered down the road, but unless it's in a deal for a potential superstar, I hope the answer is neither.

With Gobert looking susceptible against small ball & certain matchups at times, keeping all 3 gives Utah a solution to almost any matchup problem that they may face in the frontcourt.

Unless Utah is able to acquire a generational talent, which is unlikely, their best opportunity at putting together a championship caliber team will seemingly rely upon their ability to put together a deep, flexible, defensive oriented team that compliments eachother well.

Barring an unforeseen acquisition, they are likely going to have to take a "the whole is greater than the sum of the parts approach" & having the best 3 man frontcourt rotation will go a long way towards accomplishing that.

The good news is we have time here. Favs will be extended this offseason and Gobert will also likely be extended too. If Lyles is tearing the world a new one midseason next year then we can make a move to balance the roster... we likely won't because it seems our front office likes to sit and wait for good things to happen but whatevs.

What makes you think that Favors will extend again with a team that does not join the playoffs since many years?

Are you telling to me that Favors would be fine to play all his career in a mediocre team?

Same goes for Gobert, not joining the playoffs regularly could demotivate some players. Look at Paul Millsap career how much improved when he left the Jazz, he played already 3 All-Star Game and he is considered a star in the league.

Favors. I think the Jazz should seriously look at packaging Favors and Burke and see who is available. They should also seriously consider a play for Al Horford. He would play well with current Gobert and Hayward.

I don't care how well he plays next year. Plenty of minutes for him off the bench in a 3 big rotation. If he becomes so entitled that he just has to start, then he's the one I ship out. Now, if his defense were to get a LOT better, then it changes things, but as of now, I don't don't move either Favors or Rudy.

Because of the cab we can offer him a **** ton of money now that no one else can... We can increase his current contract from 11-12 m to 20ish and add to years. Would be about the same he'd get if he waits until free agency but he gets it now and lock it in. Certainty plus more money... We get a slight discount on backend by using some cap space now. It's what Denver did with Gallo.
