Let's Talk Coaches

It is time to give QS a new contract as he has one year left on his deal. I see that Thibs and Scott Layden are in the TWovles boat, Scott Brooks is taking for the Wiz, Jeff Van Gundy to Houston and either Hony or Luke Walton to the Kings. There are coaches out there that might be au upgrade.

I really like Snyder, I think he is a great fit for our team. I just worry about our offense is all, but I dont know if its because of the talent on our roster or if thats how Snyder wants his offense to run

Snyder is just getting started. Franchises need to give coaches a chance to build something. There are almost no coaches that can come in and change a team's culture and improve players in just one or two seasons. Sometimes a new coach re-motivates a few players that are unhappy, but I think that effect normally wears off because the players usually have unrealistic ideas of who they are and what role they should have, so they'll typically be unhappy and lose motivation again soon enough.

I think the offensive side of things just wasn't the focus last year. I'm willing to wait and see what he does once he switches more of the focus there.

I want Snyder for a min of five years. If it's clear he sucks at that point then let's make a change. But I've seen enough positives from him so far that I trust him for a few more seasons.

Snyder seems very analytical and introspective and as if he likely takes a long, hard look at himself and the job he's done and looks to improve in areas in which he needs improvement. That's a good thing and I hope it to not just be true but to pay dividends.

I agree with most of this with the exception that I absolutely hate Snyder's "offense". I also hate his time out clip board plays. They have been nothing short of disastrous with the exception of one Derrick Favors HORNS flash and dive to the rim layup.

Where I'm stuck on QS is if he is trying way too hard to invent new offense or if he just does not have the talent to build anything better. I held/hold the same position on Ty Corbin's offense except I know Corbin did not have the talent and continuously maximized what he had to work with on the offensive end.

I am not certain QS has maximized the pieces he has. He doesn't even bother running a set offense with progression like the Spurs do. I haven't seen a single set play with options. It's basically all freelancing drive and dish. He can't get more out of Favors or Hayward or Ingles or Booker? I doubt that would be the case with an offensive alpha for a coach.

Also, I guarantee Ty Corbin would have gotten that squad into the playoffs. That's what he is good at.

I guess I don't understand why he doesn't just run the San Antonio offense. They had plenty of it the year he was in Atlanta and when he was Austin Spurs coach he was probably told to run it. It seems to be working pretty well down there.

Quinn is OK. He's not special. Honeymoon is over.
He has a great bb mind outside of the arena but his in game coaching needs a ton of work. He can't call a play out of a timeout to save his life and his team's free throws both shooting and on defense the rebounding is terrible .

then the answer is to get better assistants to help players with their shooting?
