I agree with everything you say. BUT, look at what Portland did with Lillard. They did what Utah did not.

Like I mentioned somewhere earlier, there is no one that would trade Gobert for PDX's starting C, Favors for PDX's starting PF, Hayward for PDX's starting SF, Hood for PDX's starting SG.

Yet, we were 9th and PDX was 5th.

Cousins is a head case. The Brow was in the playoffs last year, which is better than we were.


Anyways, my point has been made. I don't care how many Gobert's, Favor's, Hayward's we have...we aren't going anywhere without a star.

So, yes, I'd trade all of those guys for a star. If you have a star, you can build. If you have Hayward/Favors/Gobert you are stuck between 7-10 and going nowhere.

I'd rather have a shot for greatness than to make money for Millers by getting swept in the first round every year.

I didn't think we will get swept in the first round every year with our current roster. Some years yes, others year no. I think this roster can get to the second round in a few years.

I thought so too. I want it to be so so badly. I'm pretty chaffed right now, lol. To have that much cap room and miss the playoffs...and let Houston in...the Jazz organization screwed up big time.

Everyone talks baking the cake. Getting a starting PG and getting Utah to the playoffs is baking the cake.

Missing the playoffs is mixing the cake then forgetting to turn on the oven. It's just a waste of everyone's time.

Portland won how many more games than the Jazz. A Jazz team who played the whole year without their starting PG ( a player who Lillard said was going to be a great player), Burks missed 40 games and both Gobert and Favors missed a lot of games. They both were hurt down the stretch when Utah was losing close games to GS, Dallas etc.

Your Anthony Davis comment does not actually support your claim that a superstar is needed to win. Jordan won squat until he got Pippen. Lebron didn't win until he teamed up with Wade and Bosh. OKC with two stars have one Final appearance.

Yes it is true that Utah did not make the playoffs, they were one game out of the playoffs. They missed the playoffs because of injuries, poor FT shooting and a crappy bench. Trading away over half the starting lineup for the potential of a unproven #1 draft pick could end up a complete disaster. This year's number one isn't like you are going to get a Magic, Jordan or Lebron.

NO superstar wants to play on a gutted team. Beside the fact that your trade seems like the idea of a Laker fan instead of a Jazz fan. There is absolutely no reason to do that trade unless you want to start another rebuild.

You need a star to go anywhere in the NBA.

Houston made the playoffs over us.

Gobert, Favors and Hayward did not make the playoffs.

Harden did.

Lillard did.

Hayward, Favors and Gobert aren't taking us anywhere.

If this Jazz team becomes a 55 win team, it will be because Exum is a star.

No one else in this team has the ability to get us there.

So, would I trade Gobert, Favors and Hayward for a star or the chance to draft a star?

Yup. Because without a star we are a 7-10 seed in the West.

Quite frankly the dumbest post ever on jazzfanz. Idiot!! U realize if not for the injury the Jazz might have had the 5th seed for a team where most of the top guys are still developing? This would make your entire argument very much a waste of time. Exum Lyles Hood and Gobert still basically in their infancy as far as their careers are concerned, and with all the cap space they have, that should scare the hell out of the rest of the league. The Jazz are slowly but surely building the deepest team in the league. A proper rebuild takes a good 5-7-8 years. We will be built to last a long time. I couldn't be more giddy about how this team is starting to shape into.

There is so many possibilities. Exum in my opinion should be a star. Gobert is going to be a defensive star for years to come. If the Jazz do lose or decide we can't keep Hayward, we can flip him for some nice depth and future assets and replace him with Hood, and start Burks. Lyles looks like a high end starting caliber stretch/playmaking 4. If need be we can do some more replenishing of talent and future assets with Favors, and that's before we have all this money to lock up our other players and continue to add depth when needed. We have so many options it's frightening.

There are no shortcuts. Maybe a few big markets can take shortcuts by luring free agents and spending 200 million on their payroll and even that often backfires (Brokelynn, NY).
So the Jazz will do the only thing they can, draft smart and hope one of them emerges into a star. Might have to wait another 3 years for Exum, possibly 5+ years for a player we are yet to draft, but there are no shortcuts. You have no idea who the Jazz did or did not try to acquire last year. They do not leak this information. The free agent class was very weak last year anyways, overpaying someone like Danny Green would have been disastrous. I was for offering Green a huge contract and watching him fall of the earth this year made me realize DL, for the most part, knows what he's doing.
