What's new

Official NJ Nets Watch

You mean besides that Brook Lopez is starting to look like the player he was supposed to be all season and wasn't because he's gelling with their new prize acquisition who also is starting to look the part of the player they were hoping to acquire? And having, what, their first win streak of the season and against a team in position to knock the Nets down a slot but the complete opposite happened? And that this probably makes the morale within the organization top to bottom better? I have no idea. A hunch I guess.

Again, 2 games, Craptors.

D-Will is dropping dimes left and right since joining the Nets at a higher rate than with Jazz, at least recently, or so it seems. I haven't watched the games, but I wonder if this is because Lopez and/or others are better at the pick 'n roll than Jefferson. Any thoughts?

I guess I'm in the minority, but I still think Jazz pulled the trigger too quickly on this trade. Harris is good, but a major downgrade from D-Will, and I'm still not sold on Favors. Plenty could have happened between now and 2012 that might have convinced D-Will to stay. The Nuggets waited to trade Crymellow and came away from that pretty good, so it's not clear to me the Jazz would have done worse in a trade if they would have waited a bit.

Sigh . . . I miss D-Will :(

My guess is that everyone he passes to on that team is a black hole that shoots the ball. They make enough of those shots to rack up D-Will some assists, but not enough to make them a good team.

He has definitely been getting a lot of assists, but there's always more to the game than just numbers.

So do you miss losing with dwill too? Not sure what there is to miss. Harris is good, favors should be great and we have two lottery picks.

We won much more with D-Will than we lost over the years. Granted, we were going through a rough patch at the moment, which started with D-Will leading the team, but I'm far more confident that we would have righted the ship with D-Will at the helm than with the current lineup, and I'd be much more confident building around D-Will than with the current team. As it is right now, we are among the worst teams in the league and without a superstar (or top tier player). I'm not sold on Favors (he strikes me as a project with as much potential to be a bust as to be a star), I think Harris is a large downgrade, and, aside from drafting D-Will, I've not seen anything that gives me confidence that the Jazz FO is capable of building a team through the draft that is capable of contending. The way I see it, you don't win in this league without superstars. Teams built around second-tier or lower players are continually on the bubble to make the playoffs and have no legit shot at deep playoff penetration. Finally, as I said, I am skeptical that the Jazz could not have still pulled off a good trade if they had given it more time and tried to keep D-Will. Things change. The CBA is a large wildcard that may very well change the landscape of the league in a way that would have made it possible to keep D-Will. That would be a risk, but so is trading your one bonifide top tier player under the assumption that you would not have resigned him. On the one hand, we incur the risk that we lose our superstar; on the other hand, we lose the superstar with 100% certainty.

It may well turn out to have been the right decision, but for everyone who claims that this was the right move, under the assumption that they could read the future, I am skeptical that it was that clear cut. I hope I am wrong.

Been watching the Nets with some interest and my thoughts:

Lopez is a skilled offensive player. Starting to run the pick and roll with Deron better. Sucks at rebounding though except for the 2nd London game. In comparison, Jefferson seems a bit slow for the pick and roll. Millsap does it better than AJ but he's not a 7-footer like Lopez.

Humphries is also vastly improved. Terrific rebounder and solid on defense. Also semi-skilled on offense and been a recipient of many DWill assists. Love Millsap's heart but that 2-3-inch real-world height difference is big for bigs. Sap is listed at 6-8 and Hump at 6-9 but they've looked more like 6-7 and 6-10, respectively, to me.

The Nets also have a Korver-type in Anthony Morrow and DWill's been finding him the times they've played together (still not as much).

Nets fans seem to be loving the difference between a really great PG versus merely a good one. At 15.8 vs 7.6 assists, DWill on a bum wrist has been dishing out double the dimes Devin Harris did with the Nets. Those numbers will likely come down to earth but DWill could be a 22 and 12 next season and helping them win more.

On paper, yeah, the Jazz got a good deal but you really still have to wonder if the FO gave up too easily and didn't just try to get better players to surround Deron.

The jazz have done Avery poor job developing player IMO. Some of those draft picks we call busts have turned into decent players. My only fear in this is that the jazz don't develop favors. He has the talent and the motor to be a top level pf. But it is bizarre to me the jazz still have not brought in big man coach (or have they?)
