What's new

So we still have 7 point guards after the draft...

Yeah the last two picks make no sense to me either. Unless the jazz picked them just to be on the D League team or something.

I think it might make more sense when we finally see all of the pieces in the George Hill trade. The full trade cant be announced, nor can the Jazz comment until after the July. I thought it would be July 1, but David James said Lindsey couldn't comment on trades until July 7.

Paige might be interesting. Was the preseason pick to be player of the year in the ACC and then broke his hand. Had a pretty good NCAA tournament and a good championship game. He might be a sleeper.

Both PGs probably are going over to Europe and we will own their rights. I don't think any of them will be on our roster opening day.

We could have signed "a pretty good player" in free agency without giving up a pick. And we could have draft and stashed euro's who could have actually helped the team in the future instead of wasting 2nd rd picks on people we KNOW have no chance of making the team. It's not overreaction, it's logic.

LOL. Seriously funny. Hill is better than the 12th pick. We did not need to get younger another season, we needed an experienced vet who could play. How many 2nd round pick draft and stash Euro's actually show up to the NBA and make an impact? How many underrated 2nd round picks come in and make an impact? I'd go with the underrated players anytime, especially with the Jazz's success at doing that exact thing.
.
It may be ****ed up logic but it's not real logic, It's a complete and total overreaction plain and simple.

Yeah we could have drafted Euros without NBA talent who would never come to the nba. We could have made threads about them every year!

Some euro's come over, some don't. The point is that any euro we would have taken there would have had a CHANCE, however small, of being on the team at some point. While we know the two pg's we took have NO chance at all. See the difference?

No, I really don't. Marcus Paige and Tyrone Wallace could easily go overseas and we would still retain their rights. That's what Olivier Hanlan did. You don't have to be European to go play in Europe.

We could have signed a player like Hill in free agency without giving up a pick.

The equation you use should not be Hill > 12th pick. If you like the Hill trade you're basically saying, Hill > 12th pick AND a combo guard in free agency OR Hill > Future picks (what we should have traded the 12th pick for if they didn't like anyone) AND a combo guard in free agency.

I think they wanted Hill, not a player like Hill.

That's a good point, but there's no guarantee that they go play in Europe just so we can retain their rights.

Nope. Because there is no difference. Those players can also go to Europe and play and we retain their rights. If the 2nd round picks we got do end up being any good our odds of them playing for the team are better because they are from the states and would rather play here.

Name a FA this season as good as Hill they could have picked up. You must guarantee this player wanted to be here. Also that player must sign a contract at less or equal value than Hill is signed for. Basically your logic is ****ed up. It doesn't translate to the real world, only your pretend they can do anything they want because they want world.
.
It was a good trade for a player they targeted and has said through his agent that he wanted to be here. He's likely to be a better player than they would have gotten at 12. The other part of your equation is just delusional wishful thinking, it's not really a part of the equation because it's irrelevant to the trade.
