If Durant Signs With Someone other than OKC

It not because of small market, Look at OKC and Spurs. It is about where the small market is at.. Also OKC roster with Durant is better then the one with Durant on the Jazz. So why woyuld he leave OKC for a team that isn't as good?

I wish Utah wasn't such a small market. They should be in this conversation. DL has put together a nearly perfect team for a guy like KD to thrive. An up-and-coming coach, a young defensive anchor, two guys who have 6th man of the year potential, two fringe All Star players who can play both ends of the court and now, two long PGs that can play defense and distribute. Also consider potential upside and development of guys like Gobert, Exum, Lyles and Hood.

They can sign him outright without sacrificing any assets, and could probably move Burks, Burke and Pleiss to free up about $15 million to sign a guy like Pau Gasol if they wanted to.

Gobert, Favors, Gasol, Lyles, Durant, Hayward, Hood, Hill and Exum. That team becomes an instant contender. Too damn bad that they didn't push a little harder to make the playoffs this past year. One good playoff series can change outside perceptions about a team. If the Lakers or Knicks had this roster, the media would be fawning over them as a top free agent destination.

I got the intent of the thread. . . it just pisses me off that teams like the Knicks, Lakers, Heat and Celtics are viewed as better options than the Jazz because of their market and history. The Clippers, Warriors and Spurs are all better options than the Jazz talent/coaching wise. . . but I think it's closer than people realize. If he goes elsewhere, I'm happy to poach a player, but I'd rather skip the middleman and just get the star instead.

They are viewed that way because of the market and the history and how one guy like if KD went to the Lakers would make LA a real popular destination again. Same for knicks and Boston...
Durant is a big time Christian, Doubt he would ever go to the Mormon capital of the world. So all of you are just wasting your time even talking about it..

Face it Utah is one of the least desired, if not the number one least, Destination for free agents... Got to draft and that's why the pickup of Hill is beyond stupid for a number 12 pick

It is true.. Russ is a top 10 player no doubt and no one on the Jazz are close to that good.. OKC has very good role players also. Just as good as Utah has. So you can hate on it but it is true the OKC roster is still better with Durant on it then the Jazz roster with Durant on it would be

Okc missed the playoffs when durant was hurt and the rest of the team was mostly healthy.
The jazz make the playoffs with no durant if they stay mostly healthy.

If the Jazz are a four seed this year and Durant does a one-and-one, then maybe the Jazz can have the beginnings of a pitch to Durant next year.

If the Jazz would have added Lin, Casspi and Biyambo they might have been close to that 4 seed and able to make that pitch this offseason.

Honestly, the only way I see KD even looking at Utah is if Rudy busts out as the best defensive center since Mutumbo. If he shows some life on offense. . . even better.

Exum and Lyles are still likely two years away from making an impact, and Favors, Hayward, Hill and Hood will all be good (but not great) two way guys. Gobert has the most potential to have a dramatic impact. If he blows up and Utah is the best defense in the league (by a large margin) again. . . people will take notice and want to be a part of that.

It seems like the Jazz have an inferiority complex...why not put it out there that we are interested in Durant and throw our name in the hat? The worst thing that can happen is that he says no, but at least five other teams will also get that same response. Even if it's a pipe dream, at least fans will know the Jazz management is being aggressive and truly wants to build a championship contending team (instead of providing lip service only).

That's my attitude as well, and I've been advocating this type of aggressive approach for years. Now that the tank/developmental phases are waning. . . I hope they at least TRY to land a top free agent. Even if they don't, I'd like to see them try.

How do you know the Jazz arent planning to reach out to him? We are not on his list of teams he is willing to visit that doesnt mean we wont reach out to his agent and at least ask.

I don't know what Durant will do, but I sure hope he leaves for the East. He won't come here because he has too much respect for OKC. Leaving for a team within the division who hasn't made the playoffs in so long would have him crushed in the media even if we all know it would be a pretty savvy basketball move.

I think that is partly what they are saying the problem is.
They are saying that they want the jazz to make it known to the public that they are talking to and trying to get durant to come here.

Don't only reach out to his agent and ask but also get word of that fact to the media and try to make it known.

Yeah. Instead of freaking Solomon Hill, I'd like the Jazz brass to have the approach that they're chasing a star like Boston and Houston always are. Trying to get meetings with Durant, DeRozan and Gasol and everybody not only knows it - but expects it.

No expectations = no risk. I'm looking for some risk taking by the front office. . . you know, aside from tanking a whole season to draft a 19 year old Austrailin High School player and hoping he turns into your Penny Hardaway.

I don't even think this is worth a thread tbh. I see no way Durant doesn't re-up with OKC for one more year (or a long-term deal with an opt out after one year)...to me, there is about a 0.01% chance that doesn't happen.

No they cannot sign him because stupid Dennis Lindsay wasted are cap space an a draft pick all in one swing. Well it was not a swing it was a bunt. George Hill is all you get folks.

I don't know. And you don't know either...which is the whole point. Since we don't hear anything, all we can assume is nothing is being done to get into the Durant sweepstakes. It's no secret that Durant is the most coveted Free Agent since Lebron, so why be secretive about it if we are indeed interested. It doesn't affect our chances one way or another.
