Alright the final piece to the offseason roster construction is to waive CJ, trade Tibor/Mack or both to free up a little cash and roster spaces. Then we go get that Sam Hinkie contract guy (or guys if we find an acceptable trade for Mack) who has some upside and develop the eff out of them.

What is the Sam Hinkie contract... The low guaranteed dollar amount contract with unguaranteed follow up years. They can run for 3 or 4 years and if they hit its a huge bonus to the roster in a year or two... if not you send them back to the D League or Europe with no repercussions.

So who are these guys that could be steals... I have a few in mind, but we have a team of scouts and a ton of development personnel so lets find some.

Here are my candidates:

-Christian Wood has some Hassan to him, physical gifts and athleticism but is immature and "different".
-Quinn Cook... shooter... could be the next Seth Curry.
-Vander Blue - I just like him and he has too great of a name to be a failure.
-Mike Tobey - Better than Tibor? and we could get him for 3 or 4 years cheaper than the Tiborg.

There is a gem out there... go find him.

Christian Wood is the only guy on that list that I think should be considered for something like this. TBH, I wouldn't mind if the Jazz cut/trade/buy out Tibor and give a 2 year deal exactly like Booker's first contract with the Jazz to the best player they can get in the door. Don't really care at what position it is. Maybe the Jazz get lucky with a move like that.

Keep Mack. No reason to ditch him.

Gobert/Diaw/Withey
Favors/Lyles/Bolomboy
Hayward/JJ/Ingles
Hood/Burks/Mack
Hill/Exum/Neto

If this is likely to happen then it is because Bolomboy doesn't make the team and Pleiss is traded/cut. Then that opens up a roster spot.

Tony Jones said Jazz unlikely to cut Pleiss.

We don't have to cut him. I think he could be moved for a 2nd... hell Calderon got moved for a couple seconds I believe. He could also be packaged with Mack and moved. Mack is good but I'd rather have Neto as 3rd pg. I expect some improvement from him and he's signed for another year.

Mack will want to play... he's in a contract year and his basketball prime. Think we'd be doing him a solid.

I wouldn't move him for nothing... would hope to get more than we did for Burke, but I'm also not looking for a first round pick.

It might have more to do with burning bridges. 3 million is a small price to maintain the jazz connectivity to Europe.

There is this element too... If it ain't gonna happen for him here he can still get a deal in Europe. He might actually get playing time on some team... Just don't think this is it.

Dude is athletic long and productive in the d league last year and has been killing it in SL. Young and immature but I think he's a worker.

If our development staff is as good as purported then this is the type of guy we need to hand them.

I can't believe Pleiss is as bad as he has looked in Summer League. This is a guy that was drafted ahead of Draymond Green and Hassan Whiteside. He was like 3rd or 4th in the DLeague in rebounding.

I just don't think he's an NBA player. It felt like a reach to give him the contract that they did thinking he might be the next Tiago Splitter. . . turns out that he's not even the next Pero Antic.

If the Jazz wanted to, they could make offers to Mo Harkless or Myers Leonard just to eff with the Blazers. Make them good-but-not-great offers like what Lin/Asik got from the Rockets and force the Blazers to tie up future space by having to match. If they choose not to (like the Knicks did with Lin) then they immediately become trade assets for a deal at the deadline like Tobias Harris.

Id give them two year deals, with a third year player option - similar to what Chandler Parsons got from Dallas.
