Trey Lyles Summer League highlights...

I'm not sure about this list. Mudiay was truly awful - shot .364 from the field and had 3.8 to/36min. I don't think he ever will account for much. Turner already seems solid, with great size and an amazing shooting touch. I would even pick him before Lyles. Russell seems to have lots of potential indeed.

Boy, oh, boy, this kid is fun to watch. He's pretty ****ing smooth. Last year, there were a few board posters complaining about his shooting mechanics and saying he would never be a good shooter.

I think I was one. He was a poor shooter in college, then I go to a jazz scrimmage age he shot poorly and I noticed a hitch in his shot, then he shot poorly in summer league, then he shot poorly at the beginning of the year. (I think he went quite a few games without making a shot iirc as missed his first handful of shots on the year. Like his first 10 shots or something)

Hell, even when I heard about his workout for the jazz pre draft I heard his three point shooting in that workout and it was nothing special. (Seems like it was between 50-60% from three or something with no one guarding him)

Dude has exceeded my expectations by miles with his shooting.

From day one after we drafted him and I saw him up close I saw lots of skills but I said it over and over again like a broken record at the start of the year. If he doesn't become a good shooter then he is a bust regardless of his size, ball handling, passing, etc.

Well, he didn't just become a good shooter. He became a great one it looks like.

And his mechanics did look good but I was at a scrimmage sitting right up in the front row and watching him warm-up and I had this perfect angle from right behind his left shoulder and he had the weirdest twist of his left hand (which had too much contact with the ball anyway) when he released that caused a side spin and he missed a ton of shots while warming up.

I honestly had no hope for his shot. He proved me way wrong. Thankfully.

If golf has taught me anything its that from one day to the next you can pick up a bad habit. Maybe it was something he picked up over time and someone on the staff was finally able to spot it and fix. Either way he way he's made some significant progress with his shot.

I've been out of the loop and didn't know this went down. That was really damn impressive. As I said earlier in the thread, not sure I'd trade anyone on the Jazz for this guy. His upside is freaking huge. Especially liked the ferocity he showed in taking it to the hole. And a dare-I-say Steph-like shooting performance? That one from waaay deep...

Interesting. I think I might vaguely remember that. Man, I started salivating pretty early last season but now I am in full-on st. bernard slobber mode.

Keep in mind that Lyles shot 40% in total last year on catch and shoot 3's. He has improved immensely since then. How do you stop a 6'10" dude that can shoot and move like that at such a young age? I'm starting to believe that he's your superstar that you have been wanting. If he can fix his shot so effortlessly, I suspect he can learn his defensive positioning too. How the Hell did he fly under the radar like he did?
