For those worried about Heyward running away next year, here is some perspective:

The excessive spending this summer will have an impact with the excellent free-agent class next summer.

The field of 27 teams with $20 million-plus in cap space this past summer could be sliced in half by the time next July rolls around.

Even with the cap rising from $94 million to a projected $102 million, early projections forecast only 12 teams having $15 million-plus in cap room.

With unrestricted free agents LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Gordon Hayward, Kyle Lowry, Paul Millsap, Serge Ibaka, JJ Redick and Derrick Rose set to hit the open market, free agents could be remaining with their own teams.

Keep this in mind that only about 12 teams can offer even $15 million on a free agent contract, and there are far more than 12 good free agents available. Tell me again how someone is going to sign George Hill away from us at $16 million. The Jazz are in a really good spot to keep their players if they want to. In fact, you will see most free agents, currently in a good situation, resign with their current teams because the era of leaguewide capspace is already over. Thanks Mozgov!

Haha this is great news. I know teams had tons of cap space with the cap going up, and another jump is expected, but my god there were actual scrubs getting big deals. I just don't get it? How the hell does Solomon hill get more then G. Hill. I forget who signed Solomon, but I think he got 13 million a year. U mean to tell me a gm was so worried he couldn't sign him that he had to ridiculously over spend. I'm sure there were younger players u could've signed for less that could've given u more production. JJ anyone?

How many teams can offer a max? I assume it would be much less than the 12 that can offer $15 million.

Boston can offer 1 max. Hayward plus Horford plus Smart is not a better situation that what he has now, nor does it make Boston anywhere close to a contender. If Boston is actually looking to shoot the moon, they will be looking further upriver than Hayward. Hayward to Boston because of a coach Hayward played 2 years for is kind of ridiculous.
 
I think you should change the title to Hill may be crunched, there is no doubt Hayward is getting the max.

Dallas and Portland are out, which is good. Even some of the teams that technically have money available, really don't. OKC could have 73 million available, but they would have to lose Westbrook, Steven Adams, and Olidapo.

Hayward is not likely to have the opportunity match the money anywhere else like he does with the Jazz. He isn't going to Durrant himself into a better situation. I think a lot of people were worried that An attractive option was going to offer the max. He may get one or the other, but not both with anyone else but the Jazz.
 
It's funny that everybody set themselves up to be studs as free agents in 2017 and then 2016 is the year that the owners spend like drunken sailors.
