What Year does the first Championship come to the Jazz?

Our chances in the next 5 years or so depends on decisions made in the next 12 months. DL has done a great job in the talent acquisition faze of this rebuild. The foundation for a championship has been laid. Now comes the big part, finding a star to carry the foundation to the next level. Until that star is found DL must keep assets without giving up financial flexibility. If he pays the max for Hayward and Gobert we won't win a title with this group and we'll be rebuilding in 5 years because we'll lose other pieces of the core and all financial flexibility. If he moves Hayward for assets and keeps Gobert I have hope for a title in the next 5-8 years. We'll be able to keep the bulk of our core and flexibility to find a star player via the draft, free agency or trade.

I want to be clear about what I'm saying. The Jazz should be doing absolutely everything in their power to win a championship. The point of competing is the struggle to win. So obviously, to compete one's goal must be to win the championship.

The Jazz might compete, they might put everything they have into winning a championship, and they might fail. I hope that's not the case, but reality is that it very well might be. And I'm okay with that. The FO can't snap their fingers and order up a championship.

But I want to witness the journey regardless. I want to go along for the ride. If it doesn't end with a championship I'll be disappointed, but I'm still gonna try hard to have fun along the way.

When the Jazz do win a championship it's going to feel all that much better that I was with this team either way. My support is not conditional based on winning a championship or not.

So 2/3 of the league is pointless?

How many teams in all have won?

You TRY to win championships. Period. An attitude of "only one 1 team wins and 29 fail, so let's just be okay being a decent team" is a loser mentality. Failing happens, but not trying is the real failure.

No team is winning a championship without a little luck. Jazz have to be competing to be one of the last four teams playing and hopefully matchup and injuries fall the right way.

The warriors were not a favorite when they won. Neither were the cavs.

Yes. 2/3 will be useless till the NBA copies a proper revenue sharing model.
I do not get this stand an fight until full slaughter anhilation instead of retreat an fortify.
Arm chair generals would have destroyed your nations people an turn them into slaves.

Okay that is my analogy please do not shoot the messenger.

GF is spot on here. If championships are all you care about, you should just quit being a fan right now. Success in the NBA is about being in a position to win a championship, but actually winning one takes a hell of a lot of luck and having the right pieces fall into place perfectly at the right time.

The warriors just set a league record for most wins and still didn't come away with a title. Would you call their season a failure and then trade away their key players to try and improve? That would be nutty.

IMO, building a team that can get past the first round is a successful season. Making the playoffs and getting swept in the first round could be considered success, if you're built on young and upcoming players. Making the playoffs with a low ceiling team like Utah did with big Al was a complete waste of time, and a HUGE mistake in the big picture. However, championships are not and should not be the measure of success.

Did you really just compare the reigning champs to mediocrity trying? Heh
