What's new

2011 draft.....

with our lineup the way it is now, mainly.

harris
miles
hayward/ak
favors/millsap
jefferson/okur

(those are the only players i really consider assets now)

who are we to draft?

What if we combine our lotto picks (assuming we miss the playoffs, or if we dont 15-18 range) for a high pick, like we did for deron back in the day, i say we go for the best 2 or 3 available, ala morris? ****, if hayward actually develops im sure he can play the three. but my dream pipe would be to get kyrie irving outta duke, and use harris as bait. honestly, it seems like point guard is the most abundant position nowadays. harris can hold it down, why not upgrade the 2-3? our 4-5 is solid as of now. DEPTH.

houston texas out.

Jimmer will not be able to create for himself in the nba like he does in college. He will need to come off multiple screens. He is dif a bench player in the league but me if im picking top 10 imn looking for starters not backups. ILl say this much thank goodness for jimmer he is much better balla then his whack brother is a rapper. So does mormon rap consist of talking bout your 4 wives instead of your 4 hos?lol

Jazz should of waited a year cuz this draft is weak. Full of bench/role players and not really any stars except maybe irving and jones from kentucky

I say we make a play for the Kings or Raptors picks. Assuming they are in front of us when the draft envelopes are opened.
We could still luck out, and are due actually(but I'm not holding my breath).

If we are stuck at 6/7 +13/14 and we want Dwll, Barnes, or Kanter (and i bet those are the top 3 players we covet besides Irving) we must make a play.

Thiller is absolutely correct when he says we need a stud. We don't need anymore solid role players, we need to go for all-stars.
It's always a gamble, and we could luck out even at 6/7 , but I doubt it. If the organization works theses players out, and finds their man I hope
they go get him. The Deron trade will look like a steal if we can get a stud out of this draft. We have picks to play with. Going to be
an exciting build up to the draft. Playoffs? Who cares!

I guess you are missing the point. The Jazz aren't looking for another PG to run the system. The Jazz need an outside threat badly for both first and second unit. So far I'm sure Jimmer is a good 13th pick for the Jazz with all his flaws.

I don't have a problem with Jimmer. He is an amazing shooter. My problem is with the Jazz drafting him in the lottery. Utah needs starters. I don't see Jimmer being a above average starting pg in Utah. Heck, if I though Jimmer could have a career as good as Raymond Felton I would be excited. I just don't see him completely changing his game and becoming an effective NBA player. Especially when you have players like Nolan Smith who can score every bit as much as Jimmer can, but has played in a system and has played defense his whole career.

My question to you is, why would you take Jimmer over Smith? Is it just because Jimmer can hit jumpshots from halfcourt? I would love Utah to get Smith with their second pick, the problem is, he will probably play his way into a higher pick this tourney (hopefully Irving can change that a little ;) ).

I think Jimmer will be a very good third guard. He has combo skills. I really don't care of we draft him or not, but anyone who shoots as well as him has a spot in the league.

I don't see Jimmer being a stable pg that leads a team to multiple deep playoff runs. I could easily see Nolan Smith averaging 15 and 8, feeding Al and Favors off the pick and roll and hitting Hayward and the All-Star wing we get in the draft (who will show himself this week). Nolan Smith is an NBA pg in my eyes. Jimmer is a once in a lifetime college player. Jimmer is more Morrison, and Smith is more Andre Miller. Who would you rather have? JMO.

I would take knight, walker and smith ahead of Jimmer. I think the pg stock will rise in the tourney. All three of those guys have been undervalued this season.

It's about time someone jumps on the Nolan Smith express with me. Ilike the fact that he is a sr. He is NBA ready now we have plenty of potential on this team with Hayward Favors and Evans. I don't think it is wise to have half of your rotation being young first and second year potential guys still learning to play the game. I compare Smith to aWatson who can create his own shot and shoot the J he's a born leader hustles and cares about defense, and can play ether guard position. KOC please draft Smith!!!!!!!!!

Why would we want Nolan Smith? We have Devin Harris, who is already a pretty good starting point guard. I can see the logic in getting Jimmer. He provides a strong scoring boost for the 2nd unit and is someone teams have to guard at all times up to 35 feet from the rim. Unless we get Irving (who even then, isnt a clear upgrade over Harris) I dont want us taking a PG unless its Jimmer.

Also, everyone is getting hung up on PG defense. Yes, Im sure Jimmer is a terrible defender, but really PG is the least important defensive position. Guarding a PG is more about team defense because teams constantly set picks to get their PG's open.
