What's new

Jazz @ Rockets (Sunday 3/20)

Bell and Watson on offense at the same time is frickin torcherous. Outside of turning oxygen into CO2 - they can't create a damn thing and every shot they take looks like crap the moment it leaves their hands.

Jazz lose another game in the first period.

I get the idea that Bell was checking Martin. He actually did a good job in the second half. But there is only so much offensive ineptitude that can be kept on the floor. He makes absolutely nothing work better.

What would this game have been like if we simply accepted the mismatch Martin presents. Guard him with CJ/Hayward/AK and let him do his thing. But for god's sake, don't play AK 21 minutes. I like Ty, but he dropped the ball HARD this game.

As much as it pains me, Al really hurt us in this game. Yeah, the rebounds. But he kept trying to take his equivalent of the Boozer fadeaway jumper--the fade push. He has to get it into his head that he needs to rotate the ball out and let a guard go to work when he's got nothing.

Agreed. I also hate when he forces that 20 foot jumper. He's a big man and really shouldn't be taking that jumper at all, unless he's completely open.

I like Devin Harris. But I have one gripe with him. He's got tunnel vision going to the basket. I notice it more on breaks than when he dribble drives. It's probably just a Deron hangover, but I'm not used to a head down PG on the drive. Hopefully when he's more assimilated he'll start to look more for the dish, but he may not have it. In fairness, most PG's don't. But I miss Deron.

When The Jazz made their initial push in the second half, AK was guarding Martin and doing a decent job of it.

Corbin makes the classic rookie mistake. Trying to conserve a player who is not 100% so you can play him on both nights of a back-to-back. Of course when you're on the playoff bubble tomorrow don't mean jack when you can't get it done tonight.

It is mystifying to me why so many people here are dying to get rid of Millsap.

Also, how did Bell play 29 minutes when he couldn't stop or slow Martin to save his life? Especially when AK is playing 21 and Hayward is playing 13. I'm starting to wonder if Corbin is blind or ****ing spineless. When you have a player go public about his disapproval and delusion, you don't cave, you stomp his ***. There's a time for diplomacy, but when you're dealing with a washed-up, overpaid ********, throw that out the window. Bell hasn't earned the respect he's gotten from the coaching staff, at least not this year.

Bell is trash. I really hope he is not on this team next season. That would be a huge disappointment. I did not watch this entire game but just seeing Martin have tons of FT attempts and Bell have 5 PF's is all I needed.

Except that this is one team Millsap has an advantage against. They don't have that tall, athletic front line that gives him fits. If he could not have big games against teams like Houston he would not have a place on the team at all. This is why I think he should anchor our 2nd unit. Him and Jefferson play too much alike and Millsap can dominate 2nd string PF/C combos and Jefferson is a better match up against most starting PF/C combo's.

Bell actually did a decent job on Martin. Ty was just doing the conventional thing matching up. But the better move was to recognize that Bell's defense is not worth what he does to us on offense. He's the worst offense killer I can remember. He has no vision, he can't drive, he doesn't cut, he's worthless on the break. The better move is to accept whatever limited defense you get from AK/Miles/Hayward so that you're not always playing 4 on 5. My hope is Ty is figuring this out, but Bell is just killing us.

You might be right. I think he was playing the matchup game foolishly, but he might have also thought he needed to preserve AK. Still, I hope this was a lesson for him. You can't play a supposed defensive specialist if you're already having trouble scoring. And honestly, Bell aint Thabo. The difference between him and the other options is negligible, while the difference offensively is enormous.

It was so satisfying seeing Bell get 30 minutes to AKs 20, especially in the 4th. Solid coaching move there.

But missed FTs, allowing offensive rebounds (although the Jazz beat the Rockets there it seemed like the Rockets had more timely offensive boards), and allowing a ton of 3s...that's classic losing Jazz basketball there.

Martin probably gets the most amount of mystifying love from the refs that I've ever seen in NBA history.

It's because he falls down after every shot. The refs, don't actually ref, see. They look at who falls down and blows the whistle accordingly.
