At very least we needed to adjust coverages so they didn't know exactly what was coming. Going under would have been a solid option with how they were playing.

Going under would be the same result, a pull up 3 by Lillard. Really hard to go under on a high screen against a player like that because you can't give him any space at any time so when the screen is called out, it's nearly impossible to go under and recover to contest any shot.

Lillard was feeling it its always going to be tough stopping him I think the big issue was letting Crabbe and Vonleh do so much damage

I think this is pretty much it - Lillard got some good looks but he was killing it either way. He ran up Gobert's chest on 3 dribble drives and scored every time. I doubt Rudy running out to defend 3pt line on a PNR would have helped much either. Sometimes you just got to tip your hat.

My bet is Lillard wins MVP this year - I know if he played Utah every night he'd probably re-write the record books.

...Rudy has the quickness to recover and contest a shot from Derrick's old man in case Damian hands it off right before meeting Favors at the rim

Wow, who knew his dad was even in the NBA? But i would certainly hope Rudy would be quick enough to defend him.

if a PnR is being set 35 feet from the basket, you don't use your center to cover it; switch and use the PF or SF.

The man Gobert is covering is setting the pick. So unless you want Gobert covering the 3 or 4, this is not viable.

Depends on who the other personnel are. Gobert would handle Ed Davis, Vonleh or Leonard better than Lillard IMO.

I like what someone else said.... Trap lillard and get the ball out of his hands.

Incredibly hard, near impossible, to trap Lillard. Plus you don't really want to leave any of their players open on a night when they are draining every uncontested shot they get.

Trapping against Portland seems like a great idea. Not every play but often enough to make them rethink their play calling. Also having Favors back will make a huge difference. With two rim protectors in the game our wings can be more aggressive and take more chances. Also if Gobert gets pulled out on a pick we don't leave the rim open like we do with Diaw or Lyle's in. Not to mention that Hayward is a much much better defender than Johnson and can help on most the switches and be more helpful as a weak side defender and fast break defender. Our excellent defense needs all our players.
