Following potential 2017 draftees...

That 1st half was crazy, they couldn't miss, I had somewhere to be but showed up late to watch the rest of the 1st. Holiday's brother is one of the most underrated PG's in the land - EASILY.

Leaf has plenty of potential to make serious $$ in the league. Certainly a better prospect than Ryan Anderson was going into his draft.

BTW - Was it you who I was talking to way back about Frank Jackson vs Lonzo Ball and who's the best guard on the west coast??

I don't remember comparing Jackson and Ball. either way, there is no comparison at this point.

That's legit retarded. I made zero predictions on anything whatsoever. No position at all.
I simply said that scouts have called him an "awful" shooter.. even a "worthless" shooter and that one game of showing a shot doesn't suddenly make him an "improved" shooter. Let's see some stats over at least a 5 game span, imo.

You have some weird takes.

Are you gonna tell us that you dont have a rooting interest in Diallo's decision? If so I take it back.

The people in Diallo's camp certainly feel oppositely. Mudiay went high with a broken J, so did Aaron Gordon.

Shooting is typically the easiest skill to improve too, certainly for Hami it's his main focus, I think he can get to the point of being a passable shooter within a few years.. He could be well served on an NBA contract next year, even in the d-league.

Whats going to go on at the bottom of the first and top of the 2nd with these SG's is a total crapshoot at this point. I certainly wouldn't take him over Rawle right now.

There's plenty of parallels between Diallo and Norman Powell.. except they're on the opposite sides of the age spectrum..

I honestly don't care. Most UK fans are kind of tired of rosters of non shooting "athletic" players.
We are spoiled, for sure, but are growing tired of having one or none shooters. That's a fact.
So, yeah, I am very cautious with HD and would like to have him, but not worried about it, at all, one way or the other.

Maybe Calipari should scout less after RSCI rankings and more for character and skill.
On the other hand, as long as there are that many executives that can talk themselves into the players' upside after they bullied NCAA bodies and just pray they'll develop shooting somehow, he's certainly not wrong to go for hops over swoosh.

You got that wrong.
UK has had zero problems with bad apple, always has incredible chemistry, and every team has had at least a 3.0 GPA (not to mention all the one and dones are continuing their education while in the league sans one).

Calipari gets very high marks on recruiting great kids and getting them to play unselfishly, but we seem to be lacking a consistent perimeter threat each year.

He also has an Achilles heal with SF's.
He can load up the guards and bigs but always misses on the long athletic SF.

ya character was the wrong expression maybe. Let's call it the wrong kind of personalities, not bad ones. Towns and Booker are exceptions obvi.
Looking through the previous seasons, there were guys that project to be better shooter in the NBA or are already improving. Maybe the shaky shooting is a byproduct of hoarding freshmen. That most kids that age don't really have access to quality shooting coaching or just didn't get enough reps yet because their bodies allowed them to take everything to the rim on the highschool level - shift of focus hasn't happened. That's what I meant with character, mentality would've been the proper expression.

The national championship team had 1½ shooters in Doron Lamb and Miller they had Kyle Wiltjer who played 11mpg too.

There's no feasible way UK can compete better yearly with the likes of Duke with another coach.

To me it's almost misleading to call players like Jamal Murray, Brandon Knight and Malik Monk '1 shooter' they shoot well enough for 2 guards, lets call it 1½ to be conservative.

Okay.. Ideally you want more than one shooter on the floor. Call it what you want.

How many Freshman are really good 3pt shooters and able to play defense to the level Cal wants? Probably not many.

Things could've been done better, I'm not trying to absolve them of that. In fact I've lodged a good amount of complaints about some recruiting practices/priorities and suggested seemingly good alternatives over the years here - and a decent amount of thats been justified. Admittedly some of them I was fooled (along with the consensus) with.

You may recall that I used to say I wanted them to recruit Markus Howard, he'd have been able to function as a solid shooter this year if needed, those minutes go to Hawkins tho, who shooting 27% from 3.

They really should offer on Darius Garland he'll function as a sniper from day 1.

In 2017 there's a top-100 from NY named Jordan Tucker who's a 6'7" SF that can really shoot. It might be too late but I'd imagine UK could land him late if they wanted. He's kinda soft tho.
