Paul Millsap on the trading block

Nope. Did the whole talented yet undersized PF/Center thing from 07-2010. It got us nowhere in the end.

Apples and avacados:

1. Millsap with Gobert. Millsap with Okur.
2. Millsap can guard today's 4s as league has moved from power to stretch 4s

Yeah, I actually think Millsap is a better defender now than he was in Utah. And size is not as much of an issue as it once was - with the exception of a Utah-San Antonio match-up in the playoffs.

I'd take Millsap on my team, who wouldn't? But if I'm taking 20 mil off Atlanta's books on a expiring deal for a 32 year old player, they better be prepared to be underwhelmed on the return.

You'd trade a top 5 pick that's barely played 100 NBA games for a player that may very well amount to a 45 game rental?

Good grief.

Two players that may be rentals... maybe not.

Exum was the 5th pick... outside of that I'm not sure what there is to base him having amazing upside. There have been a lot of misses around his draft position and he is due an extension either this off-season or next. I'm just not seeing it... in today's NBA to play the perimeter you need to shoot. I think Exum missed some steps in his natural development in part by going from Australian HS ball to the NBA and in part from injury. I am not sure he ever makes those up without some significant NBA PT... Based on his current performance we would take a step back if he plays. So, when does he get the run he needs to develop?

I would see it as cashing out now before he is viewed as a bust or before someone (Brooklyn or another bottom feeder) pays him more than he is worth because of "potential".

The bigger question to me is if I'd be willing to put Burks in the deal. I'm out on Exum... hope he proves me wrong.

Except that neither Favors or Gobert are as skilled offensively as Gasol Bynum or Odom.
The flip side is that Gobert is a better defender than all of them and favors is a better defender than a couple of them.

But millsap was getting dpoy consideration. He is no slouch defensively.

I'd rather have Millsap guarding Green/Griffin/Anderson than Favors.

I'd rather have Favs guarding Aldridge or Gasol, but I think both of those guys would struggle (and did) against Millsap.

If we traded for Millsap (while retain Favs) and our starters were healthy we make the western conference finals. If GS has injury issues we could push them... Isn't that about the best kind of window we can have in today's NBA?

Yeah I agree... just think it's not a great comparison. If either of Gobert or Favs could actually punish teams in the post for going small we'd be kind of unstoppable. If you put a small guy on Gasol or Bynum they'd put them in the basket almost everytime in the post. I mean if Kobe passed it to them.

Millsap is a has been never the same since he left Utah, undersized less hustle
Three NBA All-Star Appearances and leading the Hawks to a 60 win season, and the playoffs every year...yup his career really took a nose dive after Utah.

Here's a top-5/100-game guy that would cost the Jazz nothing:

Why would he resign? We are not giving him the most money, and we are unlikely to guarantee him the starting role, (even with Favors gone, Lyles is likely to surpass Millsap as he ages). So again why would you assume he would re-sign? If he leaves you trade Favors for nothing.

Did you even see the Hawks Spurs game last week? Lyles won't be surpassing Millsap anytime soon. We'd give him the same money we would have paid Favors and it would be money well spent as Millsap is the perfect compliment to Gobert. I think he'd be happy with that to play for a Jazz team that should be a deep playoff team. As I said Faves has an extra year (one year that will most likely be cut in half by injuries). Did you know that Favors had the fourth highest out with injuries rate among power forwards https://www.slcdunk.com/nba-free-ag...errick-favors-injury-contract-extension-worry. But that article was written back in November and he might be second or third highest by now. Life is a gamble and a trade for Favors involving Millsap and a first rounder would certainly be one worth making IMO.

Fairly solid analysis there. I wonder if Atlanta would be interested favors... not exactly a great fit next to Howard. There is always a three team deal.

I wonder what kind of deal Millsap gets in FA... could see 4/100... not sure I'm in at that price. If it's is the 4/120-150 I know I'd be out.

Having Hill, Millsap, and Hayward on the FA market at the same time would suck camel balls. But I can't help listening to the Millsap talk. He was my favorite jazzman post-StockMalone. So skilled.

I don't think ATL has anywhere close to the assets to make it happen.. But I think they'd be quite interested because he could function as a pillar of the team whilst they overhaul the roster and also cuz he's so cheap there's obvious upside...

He and Dwight are 2 of the best players to come from Georgia too. No doubt the hometown kid angle would be played to death.

I actually suspect that ATL might be one of the last destinations in the NBA Favors wants to go to..

how many times have you survived suffocation with only mild brain damage?

Negged for the "mild" part... clearly major damage done.

He had tried about 30 three-pointers over five seasons before this game. Since then he's launched more than 800, and hit nearly 300 of them.

I really like Millsap and think his struggles offensively stem from lack of ball-handlers in ATL. Other than Schroeder, there is no-one that can really handle the ball so he may return to his best days alongside Hill and Hayward but I also wonder how much of his defensive improvements is on Budenholzer. I am not worried, though, having Gobert helps a lot.

Millsap would be so much better offensively than Diaw and Favors without the possibility of sacrificing defense that I could do it if the price is Burks or Exum and a late first rounder (Is it too high?). I wonder if he would take a discount if we are close to contending with him. He is getting older as well so it could be possible.

I think we should wait a bit to see if they are willing to lower the price. Get Fave healthy playing off the bench and see if we can retain Millsap for cheap at the end of the season.
