Paul Millsap on the trading block

Pretty sure there are teams willing to pay more for him than us. It sounds like Pelicans are already offering Phillies 2nd round pick and their first round pick which is pretty likely to be a late lottery although they might make a run at the 8th seed with Millsap. I am guessing Toronto will put together a decent offer as will a few other teams.

Those that think we can just wait until 2017 to snap him up for nothing better pay attention to the Korver trade. Hint, he won't last that long.

He will be a free agent regardless of who picks him up in a trade. That team might be able to offer him more in FA but he can still go wherever.

The rumor is that New Orleans is offering a first round pick with protections, and a second round future pick.

That's not a high price. I'd do that for sure.

Millsap is the man. Numb Erica is do excited he's yelling.

What moves do you make after acquiring millsap though? Trade another big? Do you keep favors and bench him?

Rudy and millsap are like a GM wet dream. Stretchiness and rim protection in spades.

Stacking picks has done nothing for Boston. I'd give up a first rounder for him. I'd very likely move Exum for him but I'm pretty down on him. Can't keep and develop all these picks. The biggest thing to me is showing Hayward we are effing serious.

You also cant go all in on this year. The smart thing is to build for the next 3 years. Hope the Warriors cant pay KD and Curry the money they want next year.

Yeah but a New Orleans first rounder is way more valuable than any 1st rounder we can offer.

Theoretically a guy like Milsap is the perfect fit along Gobert, but not quite sure he fits the bill (expiring, will be expensive, etc..). Had he had 1 or ideally 2 more years on his contract... hm the temptation would be big !

I think we already maxed out the short term with Diaw and JJ. Better to look to next year and beyond. This year has been frustrating but we need to stick to the path, hopefully Favors recovers, Dante develops, and who knows what we have in Burks until he gets more PT.

the price is super high thse next few drafts are all talent laden. Utah needs to keep a bunch of picks as a security measure for cap hell...

Theyre about to go from am $80MM roster to a $100+MM starting 5.. Millsap would cause all sorts of issues if he's added to the equation..

this is almost word-for-word what you said as we were acquiring George Hill. Our number 12 pick was in a down year, but you were still hyped as hell, per usual, about a draft pick over a proven stud.

I don't think we'll get in on this trade, but it probably has less to do with draft picks and more to do with timing.

Funny you bring up the Warriors... how did they build their championship roster... how did they get the Finals MVP? It was not obvious that they were a contender at that time.

Giving up a first rounder and stuff is not going ALL IN! Its cashing in a few assets to get an All Star... maybe we could actually retain him. We'd still have a ton of assets to pivot if need be.

Depends on the protections... if it is lotto protected there is no guarantee that team makes the playoffs... would be looked at as a 2018 pick imo.

Only team that could and should outbid us is Toronto. No idea why Denver and Sacramento are involved here.

One thing that would give me pause is the George Hill extension talks... no idea where this stands but taking on Millsap could prohibit that from happening.

That is another thing we could offer Atlanta is salary relief. The NO deal would be a bit tough to make salaries match.

good points, but Iggy wasn't 32. And, IIRC, they didn't acquire him 45 games before having to re-sign him and 2 of their best players in the same summer as they went into the lux tax.

Yeah if we trade for sap, our salary would be huge next year. Like $130 MIL for a starting five.

But it's not going to be that much less with favors though if they do the extension.

Would you rather have favors and a mid level exception type of player, or millsap?

Nah but they used two first round picks to dump salary to add iggy when they were a good playoff team. No one considered them a contender at the time.

I don't think Paul gets 35M next year no good team has that kind of money or role... I'm not sure he's a guy that could go to philly or sacto for the most money... he might but who knows.

Oh the irony. We let sap go for nothing. And now we want to give something up to get him back? Haha

I feel like the team is in a different place right now and going in a different direction than it was back then.
