It's been almost 10 years already since we last made the WCF (wow). Those were some fun, yet frustrating days due to very matador and lackadaisical defense from mainly our bigs, and wings. If you got a time machine and brought the young Boozer/Williams/Okur tandem back who would you take in a 4 game series?

I'm taking Quin Snyder and this squad > Jerry's squad.

its a tough call, that team was really good offensively, and average defensively. sort of the inverse of this team. wasnt 2007 the year that they lucked out and got the 8th seed in the 2nd round? its hard to argue with the results though, they did get 9 playoff wins that year. I dont expect that this years team will sniff that, but head to head i'd take our current team. those 07-09 teams really got beat down by big teams (ala odom gasol bynum over and over)

Yeah that was the year.

The thing this team has over the DWill/Booze days is that we seem to win a lot more road games.

No idea but im a homer and so im going with the current team.
For the hell of it im going to go player by player breakdown (players in a 10 man rotation or so anyway.) Going off what i remember of each guy from that season vs each guy from this season.
D-will >> George Hill
fisher < Hood
AK << Hayward
Boozer > Favors (favs injury plays a part in this but even a healthy favors probably still looses to that version of booze. He was an all star iirc and a beast on the offensive end)
Memo < Gobert (the way gober is playing maybe he should get 2 <'s)
Harpring = Ingles (maybe ingles gets the slight edge for me but its close)
Millsap >> lyles/diaw
Brewer/giricek < JJ/Burks (close one)
CJ miles < JJ/Burks

The 10 man rotation is pretty damn good for each team. Booze and Dwill were both all star level and memo and ak were pretty close to all star level. Hayward and Gobert are both all star level and hill is pretty close. Harpring, and millsap are both really good bench guys. Ingles, burks, JJ are all really good bench guys. Fisher was a good smart veteran presence as is boris diaw. Hood and favors are really nice starters.

I think D-will being a superstar maybe puts that team over the top but i dont care. Im going with this years team.

If I was coaching the 16/17 team. I'd put Gobert on Boozer. Would he even score? I remember Boozers kryptonite was length, and Gobert is the longest player in the NBA I believe. I also remember teams scoring at will down the stretch of close games. It was maddening to watch. Also play JJ a lot at pf. Neither Boozer or Memo match up well against him. This team just has so much more versatility then the 06/07 squad. Another thing going against the 06 squad is leadership and chemistry. 06/07 had D-Will as leader, but he was as likely to throw a ball at u as anything else. Boozer was lazy and AK was a mental midget. Some times it seemed half the team didn't enjoy basketball at all.

This team has leaders all over. Seems like these guys love playing with each other. Hill leads by example is vocal on the sidelines. Gobert is the heart of this team he walks with a swagger is intense competitor who's attitude permeates throughout the whole team. Ingles is just a sunshine of awesomeness as a person who plays with great hustle and IQ. JJ and Diaw are the veteran leaders the jazz have lacked for years.

I think this team pulls away down the stretch, though this team would struggle with Deron, Boozer, and Memo's pick and roll offense.

I would put Gobert on Boozer. Memo would only take Gobert out of the paint and with Gobert usually slumps down into the paint Memo would get a lot mor open looks from 3.

Good post and thoughts but I think you are severely underating that team. Btw as for booze struggling against length I remember a game 7 in Houston when booze destroyed Yao ming and he was pretty tall.

For the majority of the time though Boozer could not score against bigs with length. He was scared the face Shaq. Al Jefferson gave him issues.. He just wanted that game 7 win more than Yao.

The one guy that would be tough to stop would be Williams. Hed be forced to get his points from outside though.

This is true, but Boozer was more agile than Yao and took advantage of that when attacking him. He wouldn't be able to do that against Rudy.

Guarding Memo would be annoying but we could also just completely ignore Ronnie Brewer like everyone else did in the playoffs. Just let Favors guard Ronnie Brewer and have Hayward guard Memo.

AK has a meltdown because Hayward ****s on him every game.

Hill is able to keep D-Will from completely dismantling us.

No one on their team can out-rebound Gobert.

Sloan's head explodes because we take so many 3's.

I think it would be a pretty easy series. The teams that always destroyed us in that era where teams with two super-sized bigs.
