What's new

Just say noah to Noah Vonleh

Do Dante.

What does he look like?

It's something, I just can't put my finger on it.

He looks like a little kid that wore himself out riding his stick horse but refuses to get off of it.

PBAB, who would you take between Lyles and Vonleh?

For the Jazz, It's Lyles because of his passing, he's much more comfortable with the ball in his hands. Noah shows more tunnel vision for sure. Lyles game seems more complimentary next to a Favors or Gobert while NV is more of a ball-hawk.. I imagine the Jazz took Trey, so they can get him in the best shape possible and see how good he is from there. That's why I'd draft him.

The story with Vonleh is way different than that, he's a mesomorph thru and thru. He's built the sort of frame at 19 that you'd hope to see from players in their 20's. His adjustment will be more difficult to peg, because his skillset is fairly unique so coaching will have a great affect. Steve Clifford in limited minutes wanted NV to bang down low which isnt beyond his capabilities, it's just not the best way to showcase his skills. (as was the case with Vonleh at IU)

To me its more of a team fit or preference thing than one definitely being better than the other though, as both are in the super-early stages of their progressions. Vonleh is only 2½ months older than Lyles. (IIRC when Vonleh was in the 2015 HS class he was ranked higher than Trey).

If the team had a lack of rebounding I might go with NV, who's surely the better athlete, I think Noah can cover more ground defensively and move his feet a bit easier once you go beyond 'mid-range', Lyles shows better timing though!

Lyles has much better fakes, hesitations and feel for the game which should make it easier for him to operate down low. both show some remarkable shooting touch IMO, I'd have to side with NV in that aspect right now. NV is $$ from the right corner shooting 3's and he's also damn good from the top of the arc, which are the 2 area's easiest to get him open 3's, So I like that..

They also have markedly different personalities. Trey's a bit more unphased and Noah is certainly a bit more of a gregarious youngster. It's a tough call IMO.

It's not like Charlotte gave away Vonleh for nothing. Batum is a great player when he's right.
Early indications seem to be Gordon will be the better player, but Vonleh has such elite physical tools, could keep getting
a little better every year like Favors did.

Bigs do seem to have a steeper learning curve. He's going to be good, but not right off patience is required like the Jazz with Favors.

Will PG_AB finally admit that I was right and he was wrong about the Gordon vs. Vonleh debate?

Was a big part of my Gordon argument not that his shot was in fact broken??? 30% from 3 and 61% from the stripe doesn't seem like I was all that wrong.

I'd rather pay Vonleh peanuts than Gordon the big bucks, thats for sure. He's gonna get a decent offer once he hits free agency.

I'm feeling good about having Julius Randle over Gordon..

Bump.

Through three seasons Noah Vonleh is averaging 3.8 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 0.4 APG, 0.3 BPG, 0.3 SPG, 43.9% (ouch) from the field, 29.1% from three and 65.6% from the line with a 9.6 PER.

What happened to his ability to shoot the three? His shot blocking in college obviously didn't translate either.

Noah Vonleh, what went wrong, I guess if you go back to his college career those 18 total assists might have been a warning sign. Even horrific passers like Kanter though were able to carve out a niche in the NBA.

Just look at him play in college. He looked aloof on the court and didnt make an impact consistently. He just looked off, a combination of lackluster motor and IQ.
