You might not like it but it is true. Some players get slack on the Jazz including with fans. But, that is the world we live in. I still remember dwill chucking the ball at a timid Hayward. On a good team yet Hayward still got minutes. Those are the breaks right?

Mission, this shows a total lack of concentration and dedication to the game by Dante. He's got to get his head in the game or he's not going to make it in the NBA. Quin is doing the right thing. It's either sink or swim time with Dante. The Jazz have coddled him long enough. They gave him plenty of slack during his rookie year, and this is the year he's supposed to start making his mark. Instead, he seems, as Jerry used to say, disinterested. He just doesn't seem to have enough fire in him. I don't know why they don't send him to the D-League. Ask Jazz management that question. Maybe Dante is just too fragile, emotionally, to make it in the NBA.

He can't. Read the rules. 3rd year players have to agree to go to the D-League. Just because he agreed to go to a practice doesnt he will agree to play in a game. It's clear him and/or his agent declined to play in the game Neto/Burks played in.

Yeah, I remember he was sent down to practice, but didn't realize that's why he didn't play. I think then that shows perhaps an unwillingness to do what's needed or to recognize his deficiencies. Look, Burks even played. Why not Dante? Guess this is an indication that his attitude is not what it should be. Maybe this is why he's in the doghouse now.

Some reporter (@andylarsen?) should look into this. There is a chance this is true but it is just speculation right now.

If it is true it would be disappointing if the Jazz staff wants Exum playing there and he is refusing.

The rule is 100% true.

We will never know if the Jazz asked him to play. It would be extremely poor decision to air Dante out like that, so we will never know for certain, but I guarantee it's the case. No other reason I can see why only 2 of the 3 guys who practiced with the team played and Exum didnt.

This is a poor rotation. It looks like Exum feels/thinks he should stick to the PG and not switch to the center. Obviously Gobert switches and the Jazz usually switch on everything. I think the bigger problem is Exum does not get around the screen fast or well enough to stick with his man. Gobert should front to prevent the shot but Exum should get there quick enough that they dont need to switch.

Exum does close out on him but just slow. The first one he slips on trying to turn around or he would have made it. He does slip a lot although so does Hayward, maybe they need new shoes or to lace up tighter. Although even if he gets all the way there he isnt going to block his shot. All he can do is put a hand up and get shot over. The second one he doesnt slip and just closes out slow although again he get there and gets a hand up, even if he is 1 or 2 steps closer he isnt going to do much unless he jumps up to try and block and then he is going to foul. Quin coaches the players to close out fast and get a hand up, not to jump and try and block the shot unless they are jumping straight up.

It also looks like Exum does not understand the 2 players they are guarding. It seems like he doesnt know Maker is a threat from three. Although after he makes the first he should have figured that out. Everyone kind of looked surprised he made it though so maybe he thought it was a fluke.

I believe you on the rule. I havent looked it up but I believe you. We wont know for sure but asking would give a better indication and they could ask not only different people on the coaching staff, Exum and his agent in different ways to get some what closer to an answer. If Jazz really want him to play there leaking info about it would pressure him to go play there. I think it is a possibility but I definitely dont think there is proof that is what happened. There are plenty of reasons. Exum is on a minute restriction and has been all season. Even when he was starting he got pulled at his minute mark. They have said they are easing him in with playing time and his knee has swollen up multiple times and they monitor that carefully.

But in my opinion this showed a lack of intensity on Dante's part, which could be called being soft. Does he want to be an NBA player or not? Playing like this to me indicates a problem with his attitude. Watch how Neto plays when he gets in the game and contrast that with Dante, or maybe until this changes, we should call him, Wimpy Exum.
