Serious TRADE idea

D-Favs doesn't fit anymore (sorry)

His role in the pick-n-roll is gone with Gobert and he can't hit the 3 in order to be a pick and pop.

Can the Jazz be the 3rd team in a NY-CLE trade to get Melo to CLE?

Cleveland receives: Carmelo, Shelvin Mack & Utah 1st round pick
New York receives: Favors, Deandre Liggins and Utah (from GSW) 1st round pick.
Utah receives: Kevin Love, Jordan McRae

The numbers work. I saw this trade via Bill Simmons twitter.

So you give up Favs, Mack & 2 first round picks for Love.

This shows Gordon and Rudy that you are serious about winning and winning now.

Thoughts?

So essentially NY trades Carmello for Favors (having a down year) + trash + the 30th pick. Why would they do that? You know that they were intially asking for Love right?

Doesn't work for 3 very big reasons.

1) Cleveland already has expressed they don't want to swap Love for Melo.
2) Love has a 'concerning knee injury' reports are today they're looking for a 2nd opinion and he could miss significant time. Jazz can't be so foolish as to swap Favors for someone even more injured.
3) The Knicks make out like bandits in this scenario.. that just doesn't happen..

So basically we trade one injured player for another injured player plus we get rid of a guy nobody likes anymore. Pull the trigger on this one Dennis!

Favors is the defensive centre presence when Rudy needs to rest and when teams go small.

His mid range has improved and hopefully he is working on a 3 point shot and improving his health.

Also given that he expressed liking being in Utah and on the team it is still worthwhile giving him a shot.

We are supposed to be a defensive oriented team...Neither Love or Carmelo fit into that

We could find a backup center pretty easy in the draft, Thomas Bryant for instance.

You actually think that? Not a chance. He's way to small. He would get destroyed by 4 & 5s. If Lyles who has been with the team for 2 years can't do much, what makes you think this kid can? Wishful thinking...

Favors isn't fitting in well lately. His game has become very slow and below everyone's expectations. Not sure if now the is best time to trade him. Or maybe his value is as high as it will ever be again. The last 2 years he's become injury prone and I doubt he'll ever be what he was last year. I would seriously consider moving him before the deadline.

Favors can play defense 4 and 5 (Against a smaller team). The reality is we still have a fairly large gap behind Favors at 4.

Favors is capable of some offense at either spot as well as defense. I still believe that if he keeps working on his health and increase his range (and probably perimeter defense), he is still valuable to the team.

I think you are selling him short.

He missed 2 months of the season last year with a bad mattress. He's missed over 2 months this year with random soreness in his leg and back. He's on a downward trend.

Jeff Withey has been pretty good defensively for a backup center when he was needed.
But I don't ever see this suggestion come close to fruition. Cleveland doesn't want none of Melos diva mentality, unless he's on a min contract after a buy out, they already gotta manage LeBride.
Also not sure if Love would fit defensively, but on offense he'd be a clean fit. Probably worth it from Jazz side.

Where do u get ur info? I knew about the knee which if you know anything about basketball you know you can't play well if you have a bad knee. But I had no idea he was having back issues again. Where is your source?

With that said, what about Burks. No one calling for his head and he's been out 2 years. If you want to get rid of a 2 way player cause he's had bad luck with injuries than fine. But I don't agree. I think if he were to rest and let the injury heal 100% he would be a huge asset to this team. Did you watch the Atlanta game?
