What if Hayward doesn't re-sign?

To me, a Hayward deal must lead to other dominoes falling.

I would trade Hill and Favors to Cleveland for Love and picks. Knicks probably get involved so Cavs get Melo.

Love and Gobert are a nasty combo. Add in a top 4 player and Hood, Lyles, Exum and others and we got something

I don't agree, and I hope I remember to bump this in a few years. He needs to fix his form to release at a higher point. Other than that, we're talking about an athletic floor general with great vision and a great touch. As he fill out and get stronger and wiser, he will 99% be an all-star. A good multiple all star too, not a fringe one.

What year do you think Ball becomes an All-Star?

I gave the Hill solution above. He fits perfectly at Cavs. We get Love and picks

No, that is not a solution. It's another huge hypothetical that makes no sense.

Cavs breakup playoff core to add another PG and an injured PF/C? And NYK just gives them Melo for nothing? Tons of sense.

Trying to keep the huge hypothetical that make no sense to just the original trade of Hayward.

Do you think the Jazz are able to re-sign George Hill if we do this trade?

I don't know. But considering his likely market value, should they? Currently, we don't have the assets to acquire the couple of players that will be needed to compete with the likes of GSW, SA, and CLE before Hill's production drops significantly in a couple of years. Unless Favors regains form, which is questionable, we're looking at a solid team going forward, but not one that can reasonably compete for a championship.

If we trade Hayward for a good player + top pick, then you don't resign Hill. You go with Ball (or Fultz) + Exum, and try to move Favors for something that would help us fill the gaps. Also, maybe Lyles develop into a good player. If Hill can be resigned for under 20m, then you it do as that would make him a tradeable asset. But it seems like he'll demand a sum north of 20m. So no.

Melo wants out and NY wants him gone. Favors represents a better contract, youth and defense. Love is not the key for Cavs. Hill would be massive and Melo would make LBJ happy.

Love for Hill and Favors pre-extensions is a win for us. Hill leaves if Hayward goes

What in the **** is NYK getting for Melo in your fantasy trade?

Favors represents a player who has been injured for the entire year when they are trying to win the Championship. Not someone they would want.

Nothing is guaranteed in the draft just like nothing is guaranteed with Hayward's future. What is a safer bet?

Hayward an all star is a much much safer bet. Chances are that whoever we draft won't be better than Hayward. It's also more likely Hayward stays than leaves, although our front office probably has a much better idea about that than us. I would be very tempted though to do that trade. It would save us cap room and it would be a drop off to Crowder from Hayward but not a huge one. We also get a player that won't help us win for a couple years but might end up being really good or a bust. I would probably roll the dice on it if the team had any worries about Hayward leaving.

So if Hill doesnt re-sign, do you expect the Jazz to make the playoffs in the next 2 years if we draft Ball?

Ya. We'd still have Gobert, Hood, Crowder, our role players, our young players who will hopefully improve, and whatever we can get for Favors. We won't be as good as we are now, and we would be competing for a low seed. But if pick pans out, and Exum and/or Lyles develop into good players, then we'll be in a better position in a couple of years. And that's not taking into account the financial flexibility of not having to pay Hayward or Hill gives the Jazz.

The drop off from Hayward to Crowder would be a huge one. This team would have a rough time scoring the ball without Hayward.

This thread is spiraling out of control

Boston wouldn't trade the pick for Hayward straight up... why would they throw in Crowder??

Swapping Hayward for Ball is a no-brainer, Lonzo is also obviously an above average athlete for a STARTING pg.

And you are losing about 40 ppg between Hayward/Hill and our two best playmakers. How much of that hole can Hood and a rookie Ball really fill? How good is Crowder when he isnt with an All-Star PG in a 5-out offense? The West is too good, we would become a worse team than the Pelicans. I dont think we would make the playoff for the next two years, then in the 3rd/4th year of Ball we might start challenging for low seed fodder.

We would be starting Dante Exum and our best scorer would be Rodney Hood. I somehow doubt that makes the playoffs.
