What if Hayward doesn't re-sign?

And you are losing about 40 ppg between Hayward/Hill and our two best playmakers. How much of that hole can Hood and a rookie Ball really fill? How good is Crowder when he isnt with an All-Star PG in a 5-out offense? The West is too good, we would become a worse team than the Pelicans. I dont think we would make the playoff for the next two years, then in the 3rd/4th year of Ball we might start challenging for low seed fodder.

We would be starting Dante Exum and our best scorer would be Rodney Hood. I somehow doubt that makes the playoffs.

Good point, but I'm assuming that we're able to add more players to the team to fill the gaps, given how much money we'll have to spend. If that doesn't get us to the playoffs, in a couple of years, we can use our additional lottery picks to go for a good FA. I don't know what the future holds. All I know is that if you can get a potential superstar, and if you're not currently a contender, then you go for it.

Lonzo Ball would EASILY be one of the top 2 ROY favorites if somehow Hayward were swapped for the pick that turned into his rights and Hill also walked.

Cy is vastly underrating his "NBA readiness", He might be the most ready player in the draft tbh.

Ball would be better than Deron in Utah...

There's also like 30MM in salary to spend on a few more pieces in that scenario..

PG; Ball^ - Exum - Neto/Burks - Brunson^
SG; Hood - Burks - Ingles*/Exum -
SF; Gay*(Injured) - Ingles* - Johnson
PF; Favors - Lyles - Terrence Jones*
C; Gobert - Bolomboy - Jarrett Allen^

Fultz is the only potential super-star. I think the other guys are potential stars, but Hayward is just as much as a star as those guys have star potential.

I guess the biggest thing here is how we view Ball. I'm very high on him. You're not.

So let's take Ball out of the equation. Let's say the Nets end up with the 1st pick, would you do the trade?

The drop off from Hayward to Crowder would be a huge one. This team would have a rough time scoring the ball without Hayward.

It would be a drop off but we would be saving 15-20 million a year. We could get another player in FA or make another trade for a big name player. I also expect that Hood, Exum and others would improve and/or step up. Again I would only do this trade(I dont think Boston would offer it) if we were not sure Hayward would re-sign. If the front office felt 100% confident in Hayward staying that is a much safer bet and we still have a chance at improving enough with internal improvement and other trade possibilities to be competitive for a title. Unlikely to win it all but there is a chance if things went out way we could.

This all comes down to Hayward and his commitment. Amid trade rumors, Cousins publicly vowed his loyalty to Sacramento. And they still traded him. Of course the two are different, but Cousins is an elite talent whereas Hayward is just really good.

But Kings are pure trash. They shouldn't have traded Cousins like that.

I mean, just to be clear, I'm not a Ball hater. I have him 3rd or 4th on my big board. Think he is going to be a very good starter.

Uhh, they should have traded him a while ago. They were 100% right to trade him. Just because he vowed loyalty to signing the biggest contract in NBA history doesnt mean he shouldnt be traded.

Yes, I agree with this. They should have traded him last offseason when they could have got a lot more for him.

This thread is spiraling out of control

Boston wouldn't trade the pick for Hayward straight up... why would they throw in Crowder??

Swapping Hayward for Ball is a no-brainer, Lonzo is also obviously an above average athlete for a STARTING pg.

Probably true. Ainge is about as shrewd of GM there is and didn't trade for Millsap who was clearly on the block. He also didn't go after Cousins with the Brooklyn pick or would have had him. The last two days of the deadline get crazy though, so its not to be completely ruled out.

I don't know. Sacramento really likes Hield. Bet they asked for Bradley (Hield), Crowder (Evans) and the pick for Cousins.

Hayward is awesome. But Crowder is good, and we may be able to get a superstar in this draft. Chances are a top 2 pick! Fultz or Ball!

Also, we could use the money that we didn't spend on hayward to sign a good free agent. Plus we are very deep at the wings. (Burks, hood, jj, ingles, plus crowder)

For its top 3 draft pick + crowder + good free agent > hayward at lebron James money.

Add the fact that we might lose him anyway (I don't think we will btw) for nothing.

Crowder is only making 7m a year and locked down for awhile, it is an unlikely offer from Boston the more I think about it.

What I would prefer is us to keep Hayward and trade for Butler or George (unlikely George gets traded but who knows) I would offer Hood and Burks plus a our first, GS first and more for either of those two. Either one would make us a very dangerous team. I like Hood and Burks but neither is consistent enough or healthy enough to help us. Then hope Favors gets healthy next year or trade him if a good offer comes along or go after one of many FAs this offseason. That would give us three stars in Hayward, Gobert and Butler or George. I know people think Butler has attitude problems but I dont really care. He is good on the court and winning solves most issues. Too bad we didnt trade for Boogie. He is a whiny piece of **** but good on the court and I think on a winning team with a chance to do something in the post season he would step up.

A lineup of:
Hill/Exum
George or Butler/Inlges
Hayward/JJ
Healthy Favors or FA/trade / Lyles
Gobert/FA/draft pick or Withey

That is a team that could win it all if things go well.
