Harris' value (as I see it)

I don't see Harris in the long term but he is fine for now. Give him an off season to learn the offense and player personnel before judging him. He was an all star just two years ago, and among the PG prospects, only Kyrie Irving is a surefire bet to be a better player.
 
I don't like Harris' score first mentality. This team has scorers.. they need an outside shooter.. but they'll also need a PG who can facilitate. That is not Harris.
 
Not sure if Harris has much value right now.

He's a little unpredictable. Could look good some nights while other nights not all that great. A little injury prone. And hasn't won consistently since being shipped off from Dallas.

While I think he's a decent role player, I'm not sure anyone is going to give us Lebron for Harris and a future draft pick.
 
Score first plus he's not a consistent outside shooter. So, he's constantly attacking the rim, not that this is bad, it's just that he is looking to score rather than dish -- though as someone pointed out, he has few options to kick out to. But when he misses it opens things up the break for the opponents and an easy score.
 
The rumor was Dallas was offering Caron Butler for Harris but New Jersey took Utah's offer instead. If we draft a good point like Irving, Knight, or Walker, trading Harris for Caron Butler would probably be a good idea.
 
I'd rather not have Butler. As I see it, he's on the downslope of his career and will do nothing but take time and shots away from guys like Hayward, Evans, Favors, a rookie point and anyone else who will crucial years later by which time we could be highly competitive and Butler will be retiring.

An attacking pg can be VERY valuable. San Antonio has won 4 going on 5 rings with a similar player in Tony Parker. And the Bulls are the top seed with Derek Rose at the helm. Neither of those players shoot the three particularly well either. Harris is not as good as Parker or Rose obviously, but surround him with more three point shooters to kick out to, and you will see a huge improvement.

Nice, maybe we should just try to sign him then. Unless we can draft a good sf like Harrison Barnes.

I agree with you on the whole youth movement. But the way I see it sf is probably our biggest weakness right now. We have Hayward at sg for the future, Favors and Jefferson at pf and c. We don't have that sf who can go off for 30 on any given night and take over a game. We need to get that sf somehow. Trade, draft, or free agent, it doesn't matter. We just need to find a guy that can take over a game from the sf spot.

Millsap could be a good bench player, or good trade bait. Harris could also be trade bait, or we could just let his contract run out while grooming a young point we draft.

Third, are you even taking in the added benefit of having Ludacris on the team?

You serious? Damn, there goes half of my master plan. They'll trade Wade for Raja straight up, though, won't they? Or do you think we would we have to toss Price and Okur in to sweeten the deal?

You're right but signing a guy just to sign a guy out of need, and especially a guy who will dictate solid dollars, will do nothing but be another strain on our cap number, thus handcuffing our ability to go after a better free agent (Batum next year?) when the time is right and we've navigated through the confusion of what we have on our team, who we're keeping, who we're drafting, and who we're trading. It would push us to around the LT again and for what? 45 wins? That's not the prudent move. Build through the draft, acquire assets (said drafted players, additional picks), and when the time is right, make that one move or two to fine tune the roster, like OKC did in acquiring Perkins. Obviously it's not a totally fair comparison. They have an all-world player and another stud in Westbrook but the formula still holds true. Don't overpay (7M-10M) for guys who are nothing more than box score fillers.
