Discussing the problem of reintegrating Georgia-native Derrick Favors, a member of the Utah Jazz

My concern with that is how long it took for him to get back to even a rotation-level player the last time he was shaking off rust. it was like 10+ games before he found any groove.

clearly ^this^

I don't know how anybody could expect Favors to return to starting-quality play at any point this year. It's time to put Plan B in full effect, imo.

I know it was warm-ups and all, but I saw Bolomboy during warm-ups swishing three after three before the Pelican game.

Not sure if 24 minutes is too many for JJ but I wouldn't mind seeing a sub every 6 minutes per half.

JJ plays 6, Diaw 6, Favors 6 (against bench guys), JJ 6 more to finish each half. This would keep guys fresh. If Favors struggles, Diaw can play more. If he looks good, play JJ and Diaw each a little less. Obviously a hot hand means Quin should deviate some from this.

Plan B to what I said is the Jazz decide he's not ready and start JJ at the 4 with Diaz as his back up. Either isnprinary backup at the 5.

I'd like to see - Gobert, Favors, Hayward, Hood and Hill start together for the playoffs. That group is (I believe) 11-2 when they play together. Any contribution over Exum/Diaw in the starting lineup is HUGE. Then when you go to sub JJ, Jingles and Burks in. . . have Rudy and Favors split the rest of the 5 minutes for most of the rest of the game. Jazz could be NASTY with a middle of the game with one of Favors or Gobert always in the game. Gobert/JJ swapped with Withey/Favors could be awesome if everyone is healthy and effective. Withey in particular has been great off the bench lately.

Its definitely our weakest link. I expect Favors to have a monster year next season. I hope hes figured out how to stay healthy, and train properly in the offseason.

I think his upcoming contract year is the biggest of his career. He is going to show up and dominate.

Right now we've got Diaw as a mostly miserably placeholder at the PF spot, with Joe Johnson seemingly entrenched in his role as a back-up. It seems that Q is setting up things so that, when 'healthy', Favors will step back into his starting role. If this is the case, is it the right approach?

I'm tempted to believe that at this point Joe Johnson should be made the starter for the rest of the season. When healthy, Favors should be the third big. Well, at least I think this is a thread-worthy discussion.

Step one would be to find Jesus and bring him back from the dead.

The other steps are confusing though... that is the only part that is crystal clear.

38-42, though I guess that really depends on how effectively Favors plays in the backup C minutes.

Agree here. If favs can give us 16 solid minutes a night in the playoffs 8ish as backup center 8 with Gobert that is about all we can realistically hope for imo.

If Griffin is healthy for the playoff series I think we are hosed. We don't have the guy that can stop him at all. CP murders the midrange which is where we push opponents to shoot and Jamal Crawford has not missed a shot when playing against the Jazz in 5 years. They are just an awful matchup for us. Even Austin rivers torches us. The Jazz have had a good year regardless of what happens in the playoffs, but if we get the Clips I'm not expecting us to win... I will hope doe and pray to the churro for grace.

Bolomboy will challenge Lyles for minutes next year. Might even make Boris expendable.

Lyles was supposed to make Diaw expendable next year. His performance says we need Diaw or another established vet. Not sure you bet the season on two developmental players backing up another who is always injured. If you want to compete for home court.
