5 steps: Fixing the Jazz

Milsap just needs to learn to play the 3. It seems to me there's a 6'8" 250 lb 3 that's insanely dominant in the league.

dominant three is.

There you go Milsap, just become Lebron this summer. CJ, you become Kobe, Hayward become Ginobli and presto chango we win a championship.

Why has Sap never ever been used as a 3 before? Because he ain't a 3, he is a PF even if he is small. Let him excel what he is good at and be the key man off the bench. Don't pound the square peg into the round hole.

At 26 years old, Jefferson is entering his prime and is one the few true low post scorers in the game. The Jazz would do well to put players around him that fit: perimeter players that can knock down the open jumper after Jefferson draws a double-team, a defensive-minded big man to pair with Jefferson down low, and point guard that can run the pick-and-roll and make a decent entry pass into the post.

Jefferson is under contract for the next two seasons and as the Jazz's best player management would be wise to start their rebuilding with him as the nucleus. Most teams rebuilding don't have a player of Jefferson's caliber and it would be a mistake for the Jazz not to use him.
AlJeff is not a PnR player, doesn't make quick enough reads or crisp enough passes to help the O when double-teamed, runs the floor about as effectively as Memo (post-injury), and is inefficient (league average TS%). He is not good enough to build a team around.

For a true rebuild, the Jazz need to try to flip Big Al, Devin Harris and Memo for veteran upgrades, young players with upside or picks. Fortunately, Memo is expiring next offseason (2012), and Harris and Big Al expire the following offseason (2013), so the Jazz may be able to rebuild on the fly, with only 2 terrible seasons (the current season and next season).

Why does everyone think that Millsap hasn't platued yet? I'm pretty sure that as a 6'7 PF he can't do much better of a job than he already is... Get a real center by trading him and Big Al... That is the future of the franchise.

No, he could be put into a hyperbolic time chamber (DBZ REFERENCE!!!) and he would still not be nearly as quick or athletic as LBJ or Carmello.

OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes people just need others to believe in them to get something done. I'm sure he'll never be AS fast as Carmelo and Lebron. Great players can't be stopped... merely contained. I don't think he's all that far from containing either of them right now.

He needs to be faster, yes. That's already been covered. Thanks for playing. Can he do it in one summer? depending on how long the lockout is, there's a chance. More realistically, this would be a 2 year project.

Wow. So you are going to "teach" quickness to Milsap? Enough to be able to stick with Lebron or Crymello?

Here's an idea... he should go to the person that "taught" Lebron his quickness. Hell, I think every player should. By the end of the lockout we could watch some NBA Jam action.

I don't want Millsap moved to the three because I think he is a better backup PF than a starting SF.

Train quickness. Get it right.

How many real centers are there in the NBA? Face it, Big Al is our best option at center. I think we should focus on point and a wing in the draft or maybe pick up a mid-level free agent wing.

Okay, got it. So he needs to go to the trainer that trained Lebron in his quickness. I think Memo ought to go along too, and Big al. Both those guys would be a bit better once trained to be as quick as Lebron.

You ever heard of being born with certain athletic gifts? The ones that cannot be taught or trained? Speed and quickness would be on that list. In other words, Sap does not have and never will have the appropriate speed and quickness to be a SF and he cannot be trained or taught those things, no matter how hard he tries.
