Trey Lyles: The Resurrection

Imo the only thing that truly matters for him is the three point shot.
If he is a consistent 40%ish three point shooter then he will be valuable. Anything else is just icing.

If he can't shoot the three then he will suck imo.

With Gobert mitigating Lyles' defensive lapses, I think you are right. But he has the frame/athleticism to be so much more than that.

He needs a Hayward-ian summer. Anything less such an immense waste of his potential.

Agreed. His potential is way higher than just a good shooting stretch for.

I figure that if he reaches his ceiling of his potential then he is basically a prime Ryan Anderson who can put it on the floor and get to the rim/line, with great passing ability/vision, and can lead a fast break and rebound a bit with passable defense. That's an all star type player easily.

I doubt he is ever a good defender but if he can't hit the 3 at 40 percent then I'm ok with passable defense

What I dont get is he seems to be a black hole. It is so fun to watch the jazz because everyone will make the extra pass but Lyles doesnt seem to keep the ball moving. He will get it at the elbow instead of making the pass to the corner for the 3 he seems to fake then drive into traffic. I saw that over and over again during the year

I'd like to believe it was all mental last season on his shot. He shot 38% on 128 attempts his rookie year - that's a pretty good sample size.
He has some trade value because of that stat.

The problem is that last season could be the exception.

iirc in college he shot like 14% or something from three. He might be the guy I wanted least of any pick in the jazz range in jazz history. I hated the pick so bad (I wanted oubre and didn't want booker for some stupid reason. Also loved frank the tank and myles turner) and then he started his rookie year not scoring in something like the first 8 games or so (I could be way off but I think it was something like that. Not a huge amount of shots either but double digit attempts iirc). Then he ended up playing quite well most of the year and I ate all teh crow and started thinking he could be the best stretch 4 ever.

I don't know what to think about this dude. He is so young and promising but if he isn't a great 3 point shooter then I think he has almost no value.

If someone offers the 20th pick in this draft for him I probably do it. His value is probably more like 30 though.

I would do it for 20 also. Not for 30 though.

So you went from didn't think he could play to being best stretch 4 ever.lmao.lol.lmao.lol.talk about some homerism.making a declaration like that after a few games before anyone has game film on him.#0BBallIQ

Yeah he got trade value still because he on rook contract but not the value jazz fans think. No one is Going give a top 25 pick in this draft for him.#Fact
