they should trade him while his value is sky high before it becomes too obvious that nobody is going to contend with him as their no.1
I'd rather risk losing Hayward for nothing. Unless he comes out and says I'm leaving for sure, even then I'd rather explore other trade options.
There's rumours that Isaiah Thomas may get traded by the Celtics. They didn't even need him to beat Cleveland.
Is it possible to come to an agreement with the Celtics, whereby everybody wins? We sign & trade Hayward for Isaiah Thomas.
We pair Isaiah Thomas with Gobert where IT's height is negated defensively.
Celtics can pair Hayward with Paul George (by trading Fultz to Pacers).
Everybody wins, no?

Exile this so-called Jazz fan.
I would rather Hayward walk for nothing than have Isaiah Thomas on our team for a full max contract.
Tough call. But offensively I do think IT is worth that. He's also just hitting his prime.
I think he is pretty special offensively kind of like AI was. But I dont think you can win it all with a PG his size and the huge defensive liability he is as your starter. He also struggles with longer athletic PGs and bigs on the court. Such as what Rondo did to him. Coming off the bench? Yes he can be your 6th man on a championship team. But you can not have your 6th man making 30+ million dollars.
This is his best year of his career. Maybe he will improve but I doubt it is by much his size is what is hindering him. That said in the playoffs he is only averaging 23 points on poor 42% shooting. His assists numbers are okay at 6 but he also has 3 turnovers per game and again is a huge liability on defense especially in the playoffs.
The Jazz would struggle to fit him in more with our offense. Our defense would really take a hit since we cant switch him onto anyone and he needs help since he cant guard a lot of PG and will get abused.
I'm not a very big fan of Thomas. Boston played better without him and that is really telling.

This.Nope. Unless we would otherwise just lose Hayward.
I think thomas is still under contact doe. And it's a really cheap salary too iirc.To be clear, I would love IT for a reasonable price if we lost Hayward, but that isnt going to happen. The dude is going to want 30+ million a year.
What about thomas for 6.2 million dollars? That is what we would be paying him.I would rather Hayward walk for nothing than have Isaiah Thomas on our team for a full max contract.

Even if we don't want to re sign him.... Thomas at 6.2 million dollars for one year is better than nothing at all imoYes for 2017/18, I guess these guys are saying for 18/19 do we want to pay him $30m.
I guess my take is if Hayward were to leave we'd have nothing anyway - at the very least this way we have Isaiah Thomas for 1 year at $6.26m (one of the cheapest contracts in the NBA).
Moreover, from what he's shown offensively in the regular season this year, I do think he's worth the MAX in today's NBA.
