Favors agent says only way he stays long-term is if Hayward leaves

We have him injured an entire year where he's in and out of the lineup, only comes off the bench 11/50 games due to being reintegrated into the lineup multiple times, returns from sitting out the last month of the season to play 3 of the last four games when the rotation has tightened up and he's naturally not going to jump in to 30 mpg starting at the four, then rolls in to the playoffs and starts 2 games (three in reality) in Gobert's absence but comes off the bench the rest of the playoffs.

Somehow, ignoring the huge asterisk explanation above, ignoring him starting at the 4 for the past two and a half years next to Gobert, and starting for us the past 4 years, we don't bother to take a look at why he didn't start in the playoffs and why our limited sample size of Gobert and Favors not playing together for the past two months somehow overshadows the fact that both these guys started along side each other for the past two and a half years and were successful.

Didn't you notice how awesome our spacing was with Lyles tho? Maybe the Jazz should sign Boris Diaw to a 4 year deal, due to being a better fit.

I mean, it all sounds really nice to talk about Favors not fitting with Rudy, but so far all we have seen is that fans who thought Lyles was the answer were completely wrong. Sure, it would be great to find a stretch 4 who was also a solid defender, but since those guys don't grow on trees, might be best not to rule out a guy who is a really solid 2 way PF when healthy.

How many people read this?

I heard: Favs mentally preparing for the possibility he plays somewhere else for his next contract. Agent saying there's probably not enough $ in Utah to pay my client, because it's they are going to be in a crunch and my guy is likely to command more than they can afford.

This is a dude (and agent) that gave us a hometown discount to play here. Something that is almost unheard of. IMO the difference in what he may get offered elsewhere may be significant if he returns to health. Kinda makes sense that DL is saying he has no doubt he will return to health. Looks to me that both sides are cooperating to increase trade and contract value. Admittedly that wasn't my first impression before reading the whole article.

So best case is Favs kills it next year before the deadline and we get some kind of asset rather than him just walking.

I love Derek Favors, but never felt like he understood the world he was living in.
I have suspected Favors has been malcontent for a while now.

He was upset when he was young because the Jazz had him playing center.
Then he was upset that Rudy was playing center and taking all of the blocks & rebounds.
He wants to be the man, but Rudy outshines him.

He wants to be a pf, but hasn't developed a pf game. His offense still consists largely of dunks and putbacks created by others. His best attributes are he is long, big and athletic and those are nullified by injury.

I hope his focus on his contract isn't a season long distraction.

Depending on what happens with Hayward hill and Ingles I could see him getting salary dumped for a minor asset or lower paid rotation player.

In addition to health I think he's just not as valuable in the league anymore. Would be good next to Jokic or Porzingis but outside of that he will drag the offense down and isn't really a rim protector like some may think. I would honestly have the guy drop a bunch of weight and see if he can get some explosion back. Long term he needs to be an athletic strong 4.

I don't understand why all of a sudden everyone on the Jazz deserves a max contact. They most certainly don't. Only Rudy and G deserve that on the Jazz right now. So why all the talk about not being able to afford everyone? How do the Warriors do it? They will be paying max contacts soon to KD, Steph, Draymond and Klay, so how are they able to keep everyone? Is it because they don't care if they go over the luxury tax? Why even have a cap if teams can still go over it? Maybe it's time to make it a hard cap instead of a soft cap.

It's agent talk... He thinks his guy is worth it... if healthy I could see him getting a monster offer. Probably not max. the issue is he took a discount on his initial deal and also timed the cap spike wrong. At very least he should have negotiated a PO for this year or last. I believe the cap goes up slightly next year, but not much. Favors agent <<<<< Hayward's agent.

Looks like Favors is already back in the gym and working with a trainer. That's promising to see that he appears to be taking the off season seriously.

I don't know if its a foregone conclusion that GSW will have 4 max contracts.

Would Denver say no to a trade of Favors for Arthur and Barton? No idea what kind of value Favs has, but I'd love to get one or both of those guys. Both are basically expiring and both are buried on the depth chart... or Barton should be if they ever plan to play Beasley.
