Drafting Strategy Going Forward

Problem is length and athleticism works.

Lebron, Durant, Kawhi, Rudy, Russ, Harden, Draymond....and the list goes on. Even Curry has nice height and athleticism for a PG.

My Jazz Draft strategy would be to draft for homerun threats and trust your developmental program. That would change if and when the Jazz get a 3rd star player. At that point I would start drafting for specific roles while also thinking about cheap FA options.

Milwaukee has done this very well with Antetounkompo and Makar.Jazz in a way has done this with Exum and he looks like he will be very good despite all these guys who want to dump him at age 21.

It seems fans want the homerun guy but put an unrealistic time table on them to develop.

It seems to me different positions are busts for different reasons.

A wing/guard that can't shoot(Trey Burke) has a low ceiling. Looking back, we knew he couldn't shoot. What were we thinking?

Bigs are tougher to judge. They need heart. I don't know how you measure that. Rudy's got it. I hope if we draft a big he does.

Huh? He could shoot just fine. The problem is a lack of size and a lack of athleticism is an awful combination and Burke quite obviously, unfortunately, possessed both and yet was still drafted.

I just remember that shooting seem to be the concern about him. His college FG % was 45%.

Anyway if we didn't know then, we know now. NBA Field goal percentage by year 38%, 36%, 41%, 45%. Awful.

Burke's problem was never shooting. I don't even think the athleticism thing was the biggest problem.

He just never learned how to play the game at nba pace. He was mentally slow to read the game on the court despite being a high IQ player in college.
