What's new

Patrick Beverley Available

Interesting. Here are two sources which give the higher number I was remembering:

http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/info/salary_cap - says $8.4 million (and indicates a huge jump from 2016 to 2017)

http://www.basketballinsiders.com/projecting-2017-18-nba-cap-room-under-new-deal-terms/ - also says $8.4 million

Not sure which is accurate, but my guess is the larger number.
Cappy_Smurf - Here's some more info: http://www.basketballinsiders.com/2017-nba-collective-bargaining-agreement-deal-points/

The following is a summary of the principal changes made to the NBA/NBPA Collective Bargaining Agreement, per the NBA. With limited exceptions, new CBA terms take effect on July 1, 2017.
...
Exception Amounts. The Mid-Level Exceptions and Bi-Annual Exception for 2017-18 will be increased 45% from the amounts in the 2011 CBA.

So again, I think the larger amount is correct. Larry Coon's numbers don't reflect a 45% jump in the MLE, but the $8.4 million figure is about that.

Get PBev. Let Hill go. It opens up more possibilities to improve the roster to just let Hill walk. Especially if he's gonna get 20 mill per or more.

Once you are over the cap(we are) letting players go don't make you better. You don't get flexibility by letting Hill go.

Houston traded Corey Brewer and 28 for Lou Williams.

We could potentially get Patrick Beverley and Lou Williams for 24 or 30.. maybe 2018 OKC 1st.

Would be an amazing get.

Ya, probably. Even if he wasn't, he's still a bargain at his current salary.

I'd probably rate Ingles higher because he can guard more positions and is just in general a defender at a more important position.

depending on the price of Hill I would trade for Beverly.

That's the real question now. The two places I saw over paying him were Brooklyn and Philly. With them gone, I have no idea where he would go. I thought he seriously might get 25/year. I wouldn't be surprised now if it was closer to 15.

It's weird because I'm usually the optimist when it comes to Jazz expectations. I absolutely love our current team. I think it's my favorite Jazz team of all time(including the finals teams). This team has character and charm. I loved the way it was constructed and I predicted we bulldoze over 50 wins and we win a playoff series. And they freaking did while being the most injured team in the league, while suffering both Gobert and Hayward missing playoff games. I love this Jazz team. It would be so heartbreaking to see it get dissolved after just 1 year.

I think you're going into panic mode here.

Let's just say we replace Hill with Beverly. Then say we lose Hayward and replace him with someone 2/3s as good. So the team gets worse, but we can improve in other areas to cancel some of that out. Guys like Hood and Favors could certainly have better years. Any one of our young players or picks could have a breakout year. I just think you're jumping the gun on how bad the situation might be. With a healthy Hill and Favors last year, we are probably a 55-60 win team. We will surely take a step back losing Hillward, but I believe we could still put up enough of a team to have a chance at getting past the first round.

I think you have to try it for at least a year before you give up and throw in the towel.
