Don't lose faith. There's a rumor floating around that something BIG is currently in the works. It can't take place until July 1st. So Lindsey, outside of a minor deal, won't be using the 2016/17 cap room.
Source hasn't revealed anything else. But it was put out there as something that should hopefully provide the nudge to make Hayward return. By "big" maybe it just means Hill is returning. Who knows?
I'm just guessing here...trying to connect the dots. We heard a LOT of talk about teams inquiring about Favors. And there was that mysterious tweet by Derrick regarding adversity and a blessing in disguise. The media - suspiciously - never found out what that was all about. Pretty strange, IMO. Could something be up with the PF position?
Yes, but this isn't like paying cash for a car before the end of the year. If they trade for a player using 2016/17 dollars, they then add that player for 2017/18. So it has cap/tax implications. If you look at the roster, just keeping Hayward, Hill and Ingles (and NOT using the exceptions or keeping Diaw) likely puts the Jazz over the tax limit. They might go there once or twice, but IINM, the repeat offender penalty is applied if a team is in the luxury tax 3 out of 4 years. It's a huge penalty. Jazz are not going to want dead dollars on their books. You do realize that come July 1, the Jazz are cutting a check worth millions of dollars whether they make a move or not, right?
Utah's salary was under the salary floor. The money is spent one way or another.
I absolutely hate this notion. Hayward is a player. DL is the GM. I don't think the Jazz need to ask for Hayward's permission to make moves.

It isn't enough to run all decisions by him. They should hire at least 5 classy hookers to service Hayward around the clock. I mean, if they really appreciate him as a player.
...
So yeah, if it did for Hayseed what it did for me, he's all but signed, sealed and delivered back to Vivint. So no worries. Plus I took that pic of fish with good ol' Denny. What you don't see is Linds gettin' up 30 seconds later for a new pair of slacks ...
Things got a little messy. But Goddammit if Dennis didn't have the time (or half minute) of his life. I'm not sure how that helps retain Hayward but it certainly can't hurt.
Does anybody else have a problem with our off-season just being resigning Ingles, Hayward and Hill? Do we really think thats the answer?
So the 2017/18 Jazz will be the 2016/17 Jazz but replacing Mack and Diaw with Mitchell and Bradley.
Then think about the 2018/19 Jazz without 2 of Joe J, Favors, Exum and Hood.
I'm extremely unsatisfied with this off-season if that is the plan. That is why the cap space is so important in my opinion. We have to be bold or plan for the world when GS might have to break up (2019). Treading water will do nothing for us.

Dude... Our 2016/17 team was BALLER!! wtf you talking about??
We were riddled with injuries and still have development to come from ALL of our players.
Thats some dumb **** you just spewed dude, seriously.
Let's all play nice in the sandboxI will stop "spewing" when crybabies like you will stop blaming injuries for everything. You are a bonafide dumb *** if you think Favors, Hood, Hill and others will just remarkably stay perfectly healthy as they age. And also consider guys like Hayward and Gobert who are rarely hurt but bad things can happen.
You are a bigger dumb *** if you think a fully healthy "Baller" team like ours would win more than a game off the Warriors in a 7 game series.
I dont think you are a dumb ***. I just think you are either naive or buying into the "what might be if..." hype.
Going into the luxury when the team isn't a title contender or future title contender is just plain dumb. The only way we contend with our current roster is if Tony Bradley is Al Horford and Mitchell is phenomenal.
