NBA Free Agency Moves in General (related to the Jazz, but not just moves made by the Jazz)

So Houston and Cleveland are talking about a trade where Houston would send non guaranteed contracts to Cleveland so they can have some tax relief, and Cleveland would send Shumpert to Houston. But I think Houston is short on the non guaranteed contracts necessary to make the deal work. I wonder if DL could send Diaw's non guaranteed 7 million to Houston for a future pick. Seems like a good opportunity.

We are over the cap, we cannot send Diaw without taking salary back.

Over the cap teams dump salary all the time.

The opposite is true: a team that is over the cap cannot add a player without sending salary back in return.

There was no offer so he didn't give the Jazz a discount.

We know there was no offer that Jingles accepted.

We don't know what he was offered, either informally/ verbally or formally/in writing.

There was a rumor that he was offered 4-yr 60M, and if that is true then he did give the Jazz a discount.

I tend to believe the rumor, but don't know.

He's worth the five year super max so 4/52 is clearly a discount. He will make it up with the giant shoe deal Jordan brand is likely trying to sign him to.

This is cool. It better not work.

Serge stays in Toronto for 3 yr/$65 million.

Taj Gibson to Minnesota on a 2 yr/$28 million deal.

Ingles only has a $4.18M cap hold.

Until this summer, I thought I knew exactly how cap holds work. The couple of sites I use show Utah has cap holds in place for Hill, Withey, Mack and the two 1st round picks, but not for Hayward. Spotrac has now updated their cap/cap hold numbers to show Ingles at $11.6M. I think the Ingles signing now counts against the cap, although the contract isn't officially in force until July 6th.

Spotrac site, which I've found updates the fastest, now shows Utah with $98.8m in salary and $25.3m in holds. Salary included Diaw at $7.5M. And the holds which likely come off the books at some point (Withey, Mack, Hill) total $21.3M.

2017-18 Utah Jazz Salary Cap Totals

The Jazz are currently over the league salary cap. This means Cap Holds & Exceptions are NOT included in their Total Cap Allocations, and renouncing these figures will not afford them any cap space. The team may only sign outside players using any available exceptions or at league minimum salaries.
