Please, Hayward-Don't Just Stay But Sacrifice a Little for the Team

Hayward is going to want a 3+1 contract. So that 5th year doesn't mean anything. This is what scares me the most. It limits the Jazz advantage.

I think this is what he signs as well. And that time if the Jazz are not already a legit contender, not 2nd round fodder, than he is gone. Like won't even hear a Jazz pitch gone.

If he wants to win and make the most money Boston is probably the best options. Unfortunately. If he goes East he will be an All-star for sure and he will get the votes for first team awards. Which will make him eligible for a super max contract in 3 years.

He has to stay with his original team or be traded within his first 4 years to qualify for the supermax. It's a mechanism to encourage players to stay with their franchises - even if they have an opportunity to leave. Can't qualify for the supermax once you go elsewhere. That's why Steph Curry could qualify, but CP3, Paul George, Jimmy Butler and Kevin Durant won't anymore because they've changed teams outside the 4 year window.

Sweet. I didn't know that.

this. I think the same way. He will stick around for 3-4 years, and if we are not contenter.... you know what will happen.

Don't worry. We will be a legit contender!

Hayward sacrificing doesn't change things for us like it did for Duncan or Brady... a few million only saves the Millers money doesn't open up options.

Get every penny Gordon...

Close thread.

Locke says he's signing a 4 yr with an out after 3 to sign a super max 10 year when the previous contact is up. Sounds like the logical thing to do as a player as you age to have that security

That's nuts. Listen, I know it's not my money. But it would just be so refreshing to see him do this ... as I think it's something Lindsey's talked about over the years. The idea of financially sacrificing in order to keep guys together and build a team. People can laugh but Spurs players have done this for over a decade. Why can't we? Hell, why shouldn't we?
Because Jazz have been at or near the BOTTOM of the league in terms of payroll for the last 4 years. They've banked enough cash to pay players. Why should Hayward or anyone else take a pay cut to allow the owners to keep exorbitant profits? It's time for Utah to step up and just pay the tax after their cheapness of being just barely at or under the salary floor for several years.

We can just do what we did with Stockton and Malone and pay him under the table with Hayward-Stockton-Malone-LHM dealerships
