I mean, it's a possibility. Before the Hayward decision it was rumored he was looking for an extension between 15-20 million a year.
Hood is a complementary player and shooter. He's a 3rd or 4th option on offense and not the best ball mover. The Jazz can continue to develop him, but don't be surprised if he's still traded this year.
The market is drying up a bit. The cap has flattened out and teams are getting capped out.
I mean, play Dante and Mitchell in the high 20's/low 30's and see what happens.
Let Ingles be the PF, see what happens.
Let Hood be the star, see what happens.
I dont think the Jazz really have any other choice unless they want to mortgage the future by trading picks (which doesnt seem like a DL thing to do).
For sure, but Brooklyn still exist. If they have max-space next year (please God let them sign KCP or OPJR) then they will max him, I promise you.
If they don't, there is hope. But if Hood is a 20 ppg scorer and Utah was an actual playoff contender while that happened, then I could see other teams trying to get him too.
I think the Jazz are more likely to downshift and be sellers of guys like Joe Johnson and maybe even Joe Ingles in order to get back picks or younger prospects. The Jazz's timeline has shifted.

I agree with all of this, but I think a real stretchy 4 needs to be acquired ASAP. Ingles can play a few minutes there. JJ (if retained) can play a few minutes there. This is more important than ever, IMO

Ingles is exactly what we need right now. But I agree on the JJ part... as long as he wants to be moved, that is.
The Jazz are now stuck between two eras like they were after they traded DWill. They have vets who help the team win now (similar to Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap), and they have young talent that have more upside (Exum, Mitchell). The Jazz also have to think about acquiring more young talent. The last time the Jazz were here, they let go of Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap for cap space, while at the time cap space was considered an asset for rebuilding.
The Jazz have to decide how far losing Hayward sets them back. They have to decide how many games they want to win this year, whether they want to compete for the playoffs or reset the rebuild on a new timeline. Losing Hayward could be similar to losing DWill if we're being honest.

I don't disagree with this, but the Jazz have to ask themselves how they're going to acquire more talent to team with Rudy and Donovan over the next 2 - 3 years. Joe Johnson might retire in a year or two. Ingles is 30. Hood and Exum are good rotation players, but they need to get paid and they could become trade fodder. The Jazz need to pull in 2 more young players that really hit unless Exum and Hood are going to be those guys.
Exum will likely be had on a cheap contract next year. Even if he has a good season, I dont see anyone paying him on this market (unless he just really has a great 15+ ppg year). Hood could be expensive though, yeah. He could also be really cheap. It's a great market to have RFA rights on player as long as Brooklyn doesnt **** you.
Jazz just have to draft their asses off. They got Mitchell with 24 and Lyles. DL can still pull off great moves.
