Summer League Notes And Discussion

Is Exum a PG? He's looked good driving to the basket in the SL. But he hasn't been asked to run any kind of offense. His handle and off the dribble shot are still questionable. I'm happy for Exum though! We need him more than ever now that Hayward is gone.

But let's not act like I was in left field here. Cmon, be honest. Look at our roster prior to trading for Rubio. We had Exum, Neto, and the Goss. In estimating that Goss was our best PG on our roster, it wasn't a claim that he was very good. It was a claim that our PG situation was really bad. Even after the Rubio signing, do we really feel good about our PG position right now? Rubio, Exum, Neto, and Goss? Really? Can we honestly say it's better than last year when we had Hill?

It sounds to me like a certain blocked poster is trying to get a rise out of me through others when she knows I never pay attention to her nonsense (that's why she's blocked).

So ok. You win. Exum looks better than Goss as he's only been asked to put his head down and out-athlete anyone in the SL. Can we really claim that Neto is significantly better? Both Neto and Goss are fringe nba players right now. Both have the ceiling of being perhaps decent backups. Nothing more.

He is more of a PG than NWG

And yes, Neto and Exum are clearly head and shoulders above NWG. He can't do anything on the court.

Our problem is shooting. Even Boston had guys who could knock down 3s. Our SL team has struggled to knock down the 3. Without Hayward, I really don't know who can consistently hit the 3 ball with volume. Certainly not hood or Rubio. Jingles is a good 3 pt shooter. But he must be set and he cannot be counted on for volume. Jingles is best driving and dishing.

I think part of the shooting problem is that gym. Sounds crazy but it just feels so cramped in there. None of the teams playing in that gym were shooting well... when I watched. It was weird.

Maybe. There aren't people behind the goals, so depth perception might be off on shots. It's not as bad as the National Championship games where they play in a huge football stadium though.

Yeah it wasn't just us that struggled... rims also might be tight. So many jumpers went in and out. It's also probably 5-7 degrees hotter in that gym than it should be.

And yes, I would say PG is our strongest position on the roster outside of center (because Gobert).

Who are our PGs right now? Rubio, Exum, Neto? Or Rubio, Exum, Mitchell, then Neto/Goss?

i think we our at our strongest at the 3/4. Favors/diaw(if resigned)/Johnson. Or Jingles/Hood/Johnson.

Our PG position has serious question marks, none of them can shoot.

I've never seen Neto do anything. He's never looked like an nba player to me.

Kuzma had one good game against big and slow big men (which is why they marched up well against Bradley but couldn't contain Exum). He wasn't very good last night when facing nba athletes. I think he will be a decent player. But let's show some restraint. I recall Lyles looking good in SL too.

Goss isnt going to be on the team.

Jayson Tatum is a slow big man now? lmao

Kuzma looked good. He wasn't terribly efficient, but he showed some nice signs. Tatum isn't a stellar defender at this stage, but Kuzma still made good plays.
