given the likelihood that we aren't headed anywhere next season, it isn't a terrible idea to bring CJ back and let him play the first 20-30 games. I don't think it is out of the question form him to look mostly good for that stretch and get us more value on the trade market as a result. If he could land us a 17-20th pick next year I'd be ****ing stoked.

Good point. If the Jazz draft a wing, it will take some time for him to develop. And there is always a need to have some decent backups in case of injury. CJ's contract would be small, expiring, and he has enough "potential" that a few teams may want to give him a second chance. He could be filler to match salaries in a trade, or the equivalent of tossing in a late 1st (or getting one if a team has injuires and needs a wing). We did get some value out of Brewer. There's always a chance to get something for CJ before the deadline.

Pick up the option, float him in deals, bring him back as one of the four wings if nothing materializes. CJ in a contract year at 3.7 is a good, cheap bet.

Unlike most people, I still think CJ's ceiling is relatively high. And unlike most people, I don't think his problem is being mentally weak. I think his problem is maturity. Not in he's a bad kid kind of way, he's no prima donna. But in the sense he doesn't do all the things he needs to do to be a committed professional. We don't read stories about CJ showing up an hour before he has to on game days to shoot like Ray Allen does. We don't hear about CJ going off to work with pro trainers in the summer. CJ has the talent, but if he's serious about being a good player he change the way he approaches his job.

Excellent post billyshelby. I disagree slightly - as I do belive CJ puts alot of extra practice time in getting shots up - but I still think he has a very fragile psych and confidence level and when he misses a shot he presses and compounds the problem instead of getting over it and moving on. As Jerry Sloan would say, too often he "plays backwards."

I think the coaches need to redefine his role and game - he's not a sharpshooter from the outside or an instant-offense guy who can carry the bench-scoring. He should be cast as a versatile wing off-the-bench who can put it on the floor and either pass off the bounce or get to the rim and when left open - can hit the open stationary 3. His biggest problem is taking ill-advised perimeter shots either off the dribble or when he's on the move. I think too much pressure was put on him last season as Utah's only real scorer off the bench - and he obviously forced his shot way too much.

To me, picking up his $3.7 million option is a no-brainer. After that, let's see how the draft shakes out and then proceed from there - but CJ can definitely be a contributor to a winning team, and as well as having half-decent trade value around the league.

A couple points: I absolutely don't think Miles has a poor work ethic. I just don't think he has a smart one. Young guys think they know how to train. But when you look at the history of great players, they don't try to do it themselves. Tim Grover is an example of a guy many NBA superstars work with and there are many more. CJ has to stop with the idea he can do it himself.

I don't think CJ will ever get to the Korver level, but he absolutely can be a 40 percent shooter from distance. This goes back to training. In just my own highly unscientific opinion, CJ has nothing to fall back on when he slumps. Ray Allen works with a shooting coach every summer, and he's arguably the best shooter in the game. Ray Allen always has something to fall back on psychologically when he gets into a slump because he understands his own shot. CJ just tries to fall back on his talent.

Regardless, I'd bring him back. But if I was KOC, I'd be very interested to see what he does to improve himself as a player. Shooting a trillion shots alone and lifting weights with Ray Rice isn't what he should be doing.

When I went to jazz games early I remember Korver out there by himself shooting like crazy, every game. I just can't see CJ doing that. He seems content with his game.

Get him off the team.

We already know what he brings (and what he doesn't).

Lets test the market/draft. We might end up with another Wes Matthews.

This team desperately needs some new blood.

Gone at any cost should be Fess, AK, CJ, and Raja.

these are surprising views coming from you. I'm shocked.

I absolutely don't think Miles is a smart one. CJ has nothing to fall back on psychologically when he gets into a slump because he doesn't have the mental fortitude to recover. CJ just tries to fall back on his talent and fails.

But if I were KOC, signing CJ isn't what he should be doing.

I edited your post to illustrate the biggest problem(s) I have with CJ.

This. You and I are agreeing more and more.

You must be getting smarter! :p

I'm for the Jazz picking up his option, seeing Ty and the team's direction at the start of the year, and making decisions on individual players (CJ, Devin, Big Al) once we see how it all works together next season, barring some no-brainer trade that falls into the Jazz's lap.

With the Jazz going nowhere next season, and with their current and future cap flexibility (no contracts guaranteed beyond the end of the 2012/13 season), I find it extremely hard to understand why so many around here are so eager to dump productive (this word really only describes Millsap...definitely not CJ) players who will have new roles and/or a low cap number next season. Very poor asset management by the knee jerk jazzfanz.

We get it you don't like Jefferson and you love Millsap. Doesn't matter how many different ways you say it.
