Summer League Notes And Discussion

does anyone think Tony Bradley will be a high level big?

He could be in a few years. He's a bit of a throwback player like a Brad Daugherty. He says he wants to be like Tim Duncan and Lamarcus Aldridge. If anything holds him back, it will be his lack of hops/verticality, but I've been surprised at how well he runs the floor and moves on defense. He needs to get in better shape, but he really has good physical tools and surprisingly polished fundamentals for a guy that young.

I really don't like taking second round flyers on guys who just aren't NBA athletes. They never pan out. Don't give a **** about a guys mental makeup, "Jazz DNA" or anything else. If you can't hack it physically, you won't be an NBA player.

If you're going to execute a late second round pick and not trade/sell it, at least make sure the guy has he physical tools to stick.

I'd rather pick the ridiculous athlete and hope that can smooth out the rough edges to become a player. Second round picks should be for taking fliers on guys on the off hope that they might pan out. Go after an elite athlete at that point and then coach him up.

Keith Smith's notes on SL for the Jazz:

Utah
1. Sad to see Gordon Hayward go but “We rebounded nicely. Kept Joe (Ingles) and some others on the way (turned out to be Jonas Jerebko, Thabo Sefolosha and Ekpe Udoh). Our defense will carry us, but we might have to work a bit more to create offense. But Rodney (Hood) will step up big time.”
2. They think Donovan Mitchell will be a big time star. “He’s going to be like Dame (Damian Lillard) or CJ (McCollum) with the way he’ll score the ball. We traded up for a reason and that is because this kid has star written all over him.”
3. Believe is that Rudy Gobert can carry more offensive responsibility, while remaining the best defender in the NBA.
4. “Ricky (Rubio) is going to help us a lot. We need a little flash occasionally. Sometimes we were too structured. And he’s a great fit with our defense.”

Now comes the drought we hate as BB fans.

Im actually looking forward to the NFL season for the first time in many years so that will help.

...but this part of the offseason kills me. I'm excited about this year. No expectations, except lets have fun and be tough as hell on defense.

I don't get why anyone would ever draft a Gonzaga player.
I don't get why anyone would ever exclude any school from the pool of players to draft from.

We are now at the point where we just wait for shirtless pics of players on instagram and workout videos.
