Back to W KY apparently. Some folks told him he better play if he wants to get drafted high. Sitting around a year working out not going to help his draft stock.
Tell that to Dante Exum and Enes Kanter....

He looks really, really good in any case. This next draft could be pretty amazing. Real superstar talent at the top.

True they were still picked pretty high, but did a year of not playing organized basketball help them in their playing careers?
Did it hurt? Enes Kanter got a max contract. Dante Exum suffered, but that is more a function of tearing his ACL in his 2nd year. He had a relatively successful rookie year being a starter.
All signs point to sitting out a year, as long as your a top rated prospect, actually raises your stock.
Mitchell is measured as a true 7' with a 7'4 wingspan and top level athletic ability. I dont think him sitting out a year takes him out of the lottery, and best case, it actually raises his stock if some of the other top big man prospects struggle or get injured.

yeah, i don't see much evidence that sitting out hurts a top prospect. maybe it should, i don't know, but it doesn't seem to.
Thon Maker snuck into the 2016 draft with no college and went 10th. Hamidou Diallo tried to do the same. I guess it's case by case.
