This magical NY lottery pick was supposed to net the Jazz a top-3 rotation player that could team with D. Will and get the Jazz to the WCF and beyond. People were looking forward to this pick since the Jazz agreed to take Tom Gugliotta however many years ago. People were hoping before the lottery balls bounced that the Jazz would get Wall, Turner, Cousins, Favors or Johnson. Then when the balls bounced the wrong way, the Jazz were hoping they could grab someone nearly as good a the top 5 players in the draft by trading up a few spots, even though the next tier of players was pretty even. So all those hopes built up over 4 or more years became delusions of grandeur in a matter of 3 weeks.
The Jazz had their pick of wing players and a couple of bigs that might help or might not. The draft went according to script for the first 8 picks and the Jazz made a choice. Could be good, maybe not so much. Probably Hayward, or whoever the Jazz picked would end up being a top-5 rotation player on the Jazz. That's not too bad. The reality is--even if the Jazz got Derrick Favors or Demarcus Cousins, it's going to be a few years before these players are playing at an elite level, and who knows if D.Will would have decided to stay anyway.
If our team were the Clippers, Pacers, Kings, etc., our expectations wouldn't be that high, we'd be used to rolling the dice early in the draft, and we'd be used to this self-imposed torture during the rebuilding process.
If people really want to be ticked at the Jazz front office, they should be ticked for giving away Eric Maynor and Ronnie Brewer for very little in return and for not trading AK to improve cap flexibility. Although, I think the Jazz still believe in AK being an important piece of this team.

And for not trading Boozer as an expiring in a season in which a ton of teams were trying to clear space. If the old board were up, I could bump the many threads I had lambasting KOC, Greg (and Jerry) for the salary dumps cited above, and lack of foresight re: AK's contract. After all, who woulda thunk $17M sunk on a marginally-productive player would interfere with future moves - or force the team to just dump other salaries.
Another crash is a good idea. Can we crash the NBA's computer and wipe out all the picks and trades form last night. Perhaps give KOC another chance to do something imaginative. Maybe even sneak in a virus that would record an AK for Marion trade two years ago.
