Not shaping up to be a good weekend for Dotard. Pro athletes from the NFL and NBA have joined in speaking out against the child in chief. Steve Kerr had an exceptionally good piece.

Here's just a small part:

Regardless, it’s a shame. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet President Reagan, both Bushes, Clinton, and Obama. I didn’t agree with all of them, but it was easy to set politics aside because each possessed an inherent respect for the office, as well as the humility that comes with being a public servant in an incredible position of power, representing 300 million people. And that’s the problem now. In his tweet to Steph, Trump talked about honoring the White House but, really, isn’t it you who must honor the White House, Mr. President? And the way to do that is through compassion and dignity and being above the fray. Not causing the fray.

I really like that snippet. I've said it before, but it wouldn't matter to me if I agreed with Trump's ideology 100%, his behavior, his personality would prevent me from supporting him no matter what.

The question of if it would be worse to have Pence (someone I disagree with much more than Trump, as I see the religious-right as the absolute worst of the worst as far as their policies and what they represent) take over if we got rid of Trump, I don't care. I would take Pence over Trump any day any time no questions asked. I can absolutely handle the fact that people I disagree with hold office. But there is a bar for character and competence that Trump does not clear. He is simply not qualified to be President of the United States.

I just hope people actually wise up and start electing officials that are both respectable and politically progressive. If all the American people get out of this is electing more corporate politicians who pretend to care about the population then Trump's presidency would end up being a complete waste.

what is particularly troubling to me is that I think there are fairly sizable segments of our population who support his boorish behavior - they sort of like the idea that he's giving us all the middle finger

Sure, but remember his approval rating is only 39%. He has basically lost all the anti-establishment/anti-war votes he lied for during the election.

This.

There are people who think he's picking these divisive issues specifically because it plays well with a majority of Americans. I mean, if you disagree with what he's doing, it can seem really difficult to imagine that they're majoritarian values, but they kinda are (polls suggest that most people don't think the statue of Lee is predominately a symbol of American racism + most people strongly support standing for the flag/anthem no matter what).

This is all so embarrassing.

for now.

Trump was a total long-shot to win the 2016 election back in 2013; he's a long-shot to win 2020 right now, but do those long odds make you comfortable? On the whole, we live in a ****ty, fickle place right now.

I mean, it depends who the democrats put up to face him. If they push through a blue dog, then they very well may lose again.

what do you mean "blue dog"? I'm not hip to the parlance.

A blue dog democract are mostly democrats in red states who identify as democrats, but vote with republicans on most issues.

Basically instead of going to the left as a response to Trump's win, Democrats may look to go further right.

...This is all so embarrassing.

one other thing, not really embarrassing - more just my peculiar problem - but whenever I see the word UNITED I misread it as UNTIED.

I think my brain might be trying to tell me something, I'm just not sure what
