Congrats to the anti-tanksters... this all but assures the Jazz will never choose a prolonged tank. Now we just might be stuck to mediocrity/being bad(not horrible) for longer.

Or we draft a kahwi leonard, jimmy butler, draymond green, rudy gobert, etc later in the draft and field a fantastic team.

Sadly we might never get the chance to draft an enes kanter or Dante Exum caliber player again.

Though trades for top picks will still be allowed I bet.

Plus our chance at a top pick should actually increase since we rarely finish near the bottom of the standings and we were not the type of organization to tank anyway.

BTW for the record - this is good for the Jazz because of our current anti-tanking strategy, but it will make it much harder to get back to contention once we get really bad. This change will make it so bad teams stay bad for longer.

This is really good for teh Jazz. Even when they were bad, this would have been a better system for them.

Jazz rarely ever get that bad. This is good for them and the league over all.

Utah was never going to go the Hinkie route. Even when we are bad, we're not the worst. We had a #3 pick once in the last few decades, and got jumped by 2 teams anyway. If anything, this will give us a better chance to jump into the top 4 from the 5-10 spots. This change is much more likely to work in Utah's favor than against it.

i hope not to see the lottery for a long time so it could change by the time the Jazz see the lottery again.

What are the odds of jumping from the 20's into the top-4?
Oh, a team can't? Then there is zero impact to the Jazz. Even if Utah misses the playoffs, they won't be terrible. Unless Lindsey trades Gobert, there's not going to be another tank/rebuild. Next summer or the one after would need to be the time to acquire an all-star wing or PF via free agency.

I understand the arguments that some are making that this is bad for small markets, but our team is never in the bottom 3-4 anyway... so this makes it easier for us when we hit that 8-12 range. Even the year we bottomed out for Exum we almost had to try to be bad. Now we can remain somewhat competitive in down years and not feel like we are cheating ourselves that much.

I'm fine with this.

So Utah goes .06 to 1.0 % chance. Great news!

Still not convinced that high draft picks is what makes franchises successful. At the very least, it's overrated by people who are gung-ho about it. Your fate isn't determined by your draft position.

Tell that to the Spurs when they drafted Duncan or the Cavs when they drafted Lebron.

Shall we go through the examples of when a generational player wasn't drafted? And how about the successful teams who didn't build through high draft picks?

Point is, you don't have to build around top 5 draft picks to be a contending team. Drafting 15th doesn't doom you to mediocrity just like drafting in the top 5 doesn't guarantee you anything. The best teams are the ones who consistently make good moves. That is true regardless of what the draft order is.

So San Antonio would have won all those rings without getting the #1 pick and drafting Duncan?

You said high draft picks are overrated.

That's clearly 1000000% false.

And you're argument, which is 100000% true because what? Tim Duncan and LeBron James are all time greats? Again, do you want to go through all of the top picks that failed, and all of the guys who are not top picks who are also all time greats? After that, we can go through all of the moves events and events that led to teams like the Spurs winning multiple championships.

I don't suppose that the Spurs win 5 rings without Ginobili, Parker, Leonard, and Pop. I think they deserve some credit as well.
