Does Donovan have a chance to be an All-Star this year?

My favorite thing about Mitchell is that he will probably lead the history of the NBA in three point shots made after all is said and done. He has the most three pointers made as a rookie ever so far, and he was not great for like half his games...

Coaches could fall in love with a guy that is elite on both sides of the court

I worry his defensive effort will ebb and flow in a few years. Really hard to give everything on both sides of the floor, but he could be Kwahi.

I mean, look at the guy's numbers... he was 9 ppg in October, 18 ppg in November, and 31 ppg so far in December. While I don't think that he can keep up the 31 ppg number, I don't think it's insane to see him averaging 21-22 ppg for the rest of the season.

If he averages 21 per game for the rest of the season and plays 80 games, he'll average 19.8 per game. That would probably put him around 19 PPG around the All-Star break. If the Jazz are fighting for a Top-4 seed in the playoffs, I think we deserve an All-Star, and Mitchell has been our best player this year.
At his current rate of improvement he will be averaging 64 points per game by January and 128 points per game by February. I really don't see how people could keep him off the team at that point, but the establishment is so biased that I could imagine them attempting to. We will have the last laugh when he is scoring 256 points a game in March and 512 in April when it really matters. I think that ought to be enough to win most games.

But the All-Star game is at Staples, the Lakers will start their recruiting pitch. Like Hayward and Deron before him he will leave the next season. [/sarcasm]

Regarding Mitchell's numbers, I don't think you are taking into consideration the fatigue factor. Since Mitchell has never played so many games, at some point between game 35 and 50, he is going to hit the so-called "rookie wall", and will start to miss shots that he used to make - not only drives but even jumpers. Besides, the Jazz are not going to be fighting for a Top-4 seed in the playoffs, but to be in the playoffs, IMO. So, I don't think he can be an all-star this season.

The challenge for Mitchell, I think, would be to keep his efficiency level high when the fatigue sets in, instead of trying to score as often as before.

DonJuanovan Mitchell will be borderline this year but not make it. He will be a recurring all star by as soon as next year

If he played for LA, the Knicks, the Bulls or any other large market team, the thiught would be entertained. Since he plays for Utah, no - nor do I think he's an all-star at this point.

That said, I haven't heard this much praise, love, hype, and respect from players, the media, and analysts for a Jazz player in my entire life. I love it. Mitchell has a very special demeanor and is very likable. Love the kid.

I disagree. I think Mitchell's rookie wall was his first 10 or so games where it was between his ears and shot selection that held him back. He's young, he's motivated and he's hungry. He's not going to fatigue.

First time I see a jazz player getting so popular among other teams' fans. Some random posts today:

1. Exactly what Givony said today in Woj's podcast, a D-Wade with better shooting. And still great intangibles, athleticism, his mind and hard worker
Geez, i'll tell my grandsons that i was alive in the 17 and 18 draft class era.
2. brandon roy with knees
3. I don't think he has a ceiling.
4. So glad I picked him up on fantasy.
5. Yeah.... well..... did you guys see Tyler Lyndon ball out in the G league?! Trey Lyles has been pretty good!! ****ing kill me (DEN fan)
6. hes a swole Dame. He can fly, and he can launch from deep and still has saucy handles. Very fun to watch.
Last night CP3 said "they got a gem in him" after Rox vs Jazz game referring to Don.
7. Reminds me of a Dwade type of player with a better 3pt shot
8. If there's anyone the Knicks "should have drafted," it's Donovan Mitchell. Home grown New York kid that is intelligent, modest, high character and ready now.
9. This dude can be MVP.
10. His ceiling is one of the all time greats
