Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

Adrian Wojnarowski: One team that could play immense part in dictating final hours of trade deadline: Denver. They’re active on several fronts, including trying to acquire Tyreke Evans, move Emmanuel Mudiay and Wilson Chandler, and use pick to incentivize a team to take on Kenneth Faried’s contract.

So we should consider trading Burks and JoeJ to Denver for Faried, Chandler and their 1st (which will become a certain superstar). Yes, we would spend about $15 more next year, but both Faried and Chandler come off the books after next season. After we do this trade, we have the flexibility to trade Favors.

The reason in the end why I don't think the Jazz make a move is flexibility seems to be their #1 priority right now. Not making a move will allow flexibility this offseason to decide if they want to resign Favors & Hood and flexibility to decide to let them go and then have the flexibility to sign a significant free agent agent if they want with their cap space.

One of the problems we have is staying status quo. We are risk averse. We are afraid to take money. Well you know what, every NBA team right now is afraid to take money. In my opinion, we have an opportunity that others are afraid to take. We should be willing to take on Dellavadova and Teletovic if it gets us Parker. Or take Biyombo if it gets us Gordon. Why not? What do we have to lose? Cap space to sign 3 or 4 guys like Jerekbo, Udoh and Thabo? Don't get me wrong, I love those guys and they are solid pros, but they aren't moving the needle of contention. Gordon or Parker might.

Tony Jones recently said on Twitter there's no chance the Jazz would bring in Gordon even Fournier attached (who's a lot better fit than Biyombo) just because Fournier's contract is $17M/year through 2021.

So you're right, everyone is afraid of contracts right now.

Oddly enough, I think Fournier is worse for us than Biyombo. For one, Fournier has one more year of $17 million than Biyombo. Secondly, Fournier is a starter and he would be a 6th man here behind Mitchell and Ingles. And lastly, Biyombo is excellent insurance in case Gobert gets hurt or in playoff foul trouble. I would hate to pay the guy, but it's not like he's Noah and worthless money.

Yeah, you need to log off.

I agree re: flexibility. Unless 1sts come Utah's aay, theres no reason to trade Hood or Favors. Once they test the waters, they may find returning to Utah is their option.

Its not like the two are garbage. The only reason for trading is that Lindsey believes they'll be too expebsive. But what if they'r not? Trade them and Utah loses the ability to re-sign, IINM. Remember several years back when cap space dried up and Millsap had to sign a very cheap deal with Atlanta?

I'm to the point that I want Parker, Gordon, or the status quo. In that order. Beginning to feel like we dodged a bullet with offering anything for Mirotic.
