Hell no. He has turned into a cancer for our team, and why would we want that kind of player to take minutes away from our young guys like Hayward and the likely wing we will pick at 12? We need to build a tough team and with AK on the roster that will hinder development and set a bad example as far as work ethic and motivation.

So Hayward is going to guard Lebron, Carmelo, Durant, etc? They could make a movie if so, the massacre in Salt Lake, or something to that effect. Hayward is a SG in this league, we have no SF.
In 3+ years, AK won't be doing any better either. Considering his defense has been reliant on his athleticism, size, and pure reaction as oppose to scouting or fundamentals, what's going to be left for the guy? You can push him around all you want and he thinks it wise to go over screens guarding the most unstoppable force on the move... probably in the entire history of the NBA. He's not going to suddenly reform and get it in his 30's, especially around any time an expansion pack has been released.

This. For a reasonable contract AK is still a pretty good player. He needs to be a backup in the long run and should be paid accordingly. I want this team to get young but they should not do that all at once. Ditch Bell and Memo if possible. But AK can be a decent vet for this team. 2-3 years would be my max, 4 if you plan to trade him at the end of the deal.

That's why I hope we use our second draft pick on a wing (Singleton), and throw our mid-level at someone like Afflalo or Thaddeus Young. We need to move on from Kirilenko. No reason to keep him whatsoever.

Do you really think AK would accept being a backup? He wants to start and get shots. We've all seen what happened to him when he wasn't the number 1 option anymore. Time to move on.

I'm only going to make one post in this thread, and I hope it expresses my thoughts on this situation enough for even the CJ's of the board to understand.
AK has talent, and DOES make the team better. If you watch the games, it's obvious. There were times throughout the year when I felt like he was the only guy on the floor that cared.
And we don't REALLY know horseshoes from hand grenades about who was the "cancer" on the team. Considering Deron MAY have made Sloan retire through constant lashing out.. and how Boozer seemingly has to be the star on the team to be a max contract guy, how can we be sure AK was the problem? I really think giving him less than max, and not having a max player on the roster is going to show something very different than what most of us expect.
In my opinion, if we can get him for 6m/year or less, he is more than worth the gamble. If he doesn't work out for us halfway through December(in a diminished starting or 6th/7th man role), it will be quite easy to trade someone of his talent to another team. Just about every team in the NBA would be looking to pick him up for <=6m/year.

He ain't the player he used to be. Or looked to be for about a year I guess. He's an injury prone head case. Time to move on if it's gonna cost 5-6 million per. Tattoo is whack as hell too.

If the Jazz can lock him up for only 2 years, you do it without blinking. Big Al, Devin, Raja, Millsap and AK would then all be expiring in the summer of 2013. Since I don't see the Jazz contending anytime before then, having those contracts all coming up at the same time could give the Jazz a lot of options from the 12/13 season through to free agency in 2013 to really put the right pieces together to build a contender.
On the other hand, any contract that extends beyond 3 years shouldn't be considered.

Only if we do not get to draft a small forward like Singleton this year, and only if he signs a 2 year deal for 5 million TOTAL or less do we need to sign AK.
Both are restricted. How much luck have we had in signing restricted free agents? Last time i checked Jason Terry is not on our team.

I want him gone but would be entertained if he was our back up 3 for 3-4 mil a year. I just have a horrible feeling he would be a cancer and would complain about PT and would not play very hard.
