Millsap's future impacts Jazz draft strategy

Having Talent and playing as a team wins in the NBA. Any team is stupid if they don't take the best talent available. If Millsap or any player is going to complain about their role then do we really want them on the team? If Kanter is the best guy then you have to take him. The coach's job is to figure out how to make it work. The GM's job is to bring in the best talent.

I think Favors can play both positions just like Kanter can. Having a rotation of AJ, Favors, Millsap and Kanter or Williams would be awesome. The Jazz are protected if one of the guy's gets hurt or they want a big contract or if they get all "Diva" and complain about their role, the Jazz can just bench the player or they can trade the player to improve a weaker position. My whole point is that the Jazz are in a very good position and they need to make sure they don't screw it up by passing on the BPA, no matter who it is or what position the player plays.

Jazz have to go BPA regardless of position. However, the drafting of Kanter would mean future moves eventually would need to be made. Even if Sap is out of the picture, you still have frontcourt problems in regards to who's starting/sitting:

-Utah certainly wouldn't draft Kanter #3 overall with the expectations of making him a rotation player.

-Derrick Favors was the centerpiece of the D-Will trade. Obviously, Utah sees him as a long-term starter.

-Al Jefferson's scoring ability and low-post presence basically forces you to start him. Not only that, as the roster currently sits he is Utah's best player.

I actually HATE the idea of trading Jefferson, but it seems to be the most logical idea if Kanter is the pick. I know it's up for debate, but I belive Sap can play the 3 and whether you agree with that or not, odds are that he is Utah's starting SF when the 2011-2012 season gets under way. If Kanter is the pick, he can come off the bench for a season while Al continues to man the Center position. Then next offseason you trade Jefferson, move Kanter into his spot and have him play alongside Favors and Sap.

I like Kanter, but I'd almost rather see Derrick Williams fall to Utah. I believe he will be able to play the 3 at the next level and would be pretty dynamic with Favors and Jefferson. If Sap can see the writing on the wall and accepts the 6th man role, great. If not, you've got a very moveable asset.

I really think Minny is going to grab Kanter. Kanter looks like another role player to me, but Williams is an all star.

I think DWill is by far the best player in the draft. Our only hope of getting DWill is to hope that Minnesota takes Kantner. If Williams is gone, then I think we should go with Kanter. Another wild card in the draft is if Minny trades the 2nd pick and someone craves a certain player. I also think Knight and Kantner will not be starters next year and both will be role players until they get more experience.

Of course if you draft Kanter and move Sap to 3 then you have to trade Okur.
SF- Sap, ?
PF- Favors, Kanter/Sap
C- Jefferson, Kanter/Favors

If you draft D-Will2
SF- D-Will2, ?
PF- Favors,Sap,D-will2
C- Big Al, Favors

I like the D-Will 2 lineup better

I don't know if that's your long-term projection or not. If it is, there's still the problem of your #3 overall pick coming off the bench. Favors, Jefferson or Kanter cannot play the 3, so if you plan on having all 3 on the squad, you're going to have line-up problems.

Best case scenario is Minny falling in love with Kanter allowing Derrick Williams to fall to Utah and Sap accepting the 6th man role. A frontcourt rotation of Favors/Jefferson/Williams and Sap would be insane.

Insanely tweener. Four ideal PFs spread between 3 positions. Insanely good would be finding a way (Jefferson and #12 for Bogut is a dream) to get an actual C one day.

Having Williams and Millsap on the same team would either be brilliant (if they can both guard both the 3 and 4) or a disaster (neither is a 3 at all). I don't think it could be anywhere in-between. For that reason, I kind of dread the idea of Williams being available at #3 because there's no way you can't draft him there.
