Following Potential 2018 Draftees

Really starting to warm up to Josh Okogie. Not sure what his draft range is, but I wouldn’t mind seeing him land with the Jazz at all. Glad he’s staying in the draft.

What is the cutoff date that players have to pull their names out of this year’s draft?

Had leg cramps towards the end of the workout then his back spasmed a bit during the interview. Ended up being fine.

Sucks that Okobo might not even be available at 21 now.

I mean someone has to be available... KBD, Okobo, Walker, Smith, Donte ate all guys ive heard someone say he might not be available.

I also think we could swap with the Wizards if we took on some bad money... just the one year bad money... not Ian. So Gortat, Meeks, Smith... Meeks isn’t that bad but I’ll bet they’d prefer he decline the option.

Burks and Sefalosha each have a modicum of trade value, maybe enough to move up 4 or 5 spots if we took money back. I think Bradley has value too for a team that isn't sold on Jontay, Mitchell Robinson, Wagner or Brandon McCoy.

AB only has value as an expiring imo... moving up 4-5 spots isn’t worth the extra year of bad salary we’d take on.

Its a contract year for Burks...ready for a breakout.

Also, I ran into KBD's sister at Best Buy this afternoon. She said the cramps was all staged. KBD really wants to play for the Jazz but is expected to get drafted higher, so his Agent worked it out where he would have leg cramps and back spasms during the interviews. He will shut down work-outs now and force the teams ahead of the Jazz to guess about his health.

Curious to know what your "worst-case" draft scenarios are.

Assume that Doncic, Ayton, Jar. Jackson, Bamba, Bagley, Young, Porter Jr, both Bridges, Sexton, Carter, Walker, R. Williams, Gilgeous-Alexander, Knox and Z. Smith are taken (virtually all the mocks I see have them gone before the Jazz's #21). That leaves 4 more picks before the Jazz.

1. What's your worst-case scenario? (From the remaining players, what four picks would disappoint you most if they went before Utah was on the board? (My very preliminary answers: Bates-Diop, Heurter, Musa, Frazier)

2. If those four players are taken before the Jazz's pick, which 5 players remaining players do you think the Jazz should most seriously consider? (Ja. Evans, DiVincenzo, Okogie, Okobo, Jer. Robinson)

3. Which of those five players would you pick? (DiVincenzo -- best balance between system fit, roster fit, use as a role player and possible breakout as more than a role player)

4. Are there any players in the first 16 players mentioned in the scenario that would leave you disappointed if they were not taken before the Jazz (because that would likely eliminate one of the players you like better from consideration by the Jazz?) (R. Williams because of fit; Knox and Walker might be close as well)

Revisiting draft scenarios, the following players should be expected to go in the top 15 picks, or otherwise should be expected to be gone when the Jazz draft: Doncic, Ayton, Jackson Jr, Bamba, Bagley, Porter, Carter, Young, Bridges, Sexton, Walker, Bridges, SGA, Williams, Knox.

So lets say it's unlikely one of them drops to the Jazz. The most likely guy to drop would have to be Robert Williams, but it's still unlikely.

That leaves the next group of 15: Z. Smith, KBD, Hutchison, Brown, Musa, Simons, K. Thomas, J. Robinson, M. Robinson, Evans, Okobo, Frazier, Okogie, Melton, Divincenzo. (I believe in Trent too, fwiw.)

Ten of these guys will be available at 21.

I think if KBD, Okogie, Evans, and Okobo we’re gone I’d be upset. Would likely settle for Musa, Frazier, or Donte.

Smith or Williams could be the sliders.

Then I have good faith jazz will get a wise pick at 21 in a very deep draft or move up a few picks to say 13th for a steal
