Defensive Stoppers in the Lottery

Bosh is by far their least clutch player. He dribbled the ball out of bounds on a low post iso with a 2 point (or 4 point) lead, and I just knew he was going to get owned when he was on Dirk for that last play.

I see the reason for putting Bosh on him. Hindsight is 20/20.
What does Dirk usually do? He shoots a jumpshot. Bosh has the most length to disrupt the jumpshot. Spols prob figures if Dirk actually tries to drive, someone will come help. They didnt.

I guess, but Bosh is still known for being a weak 1 on 1 defender. Haslem is at least tought and isn't going to give up anything that easy.

The book on Dirk is you have to crowd him. That's not what you're going to get from Bosh. Nobody has the length to affect his shot anyway.

I don't think you can draft defensive stoppers, most great defensive players are veterans. Even big men aren't a sure thing... look at Thabeet.

And happy 1000th post to me.

Actually, that is what you got from Bosh. He did crowd him, and then let him right by..lol
I do see your point. BUT, someone should have came sooner to help. No excuse for that.

That's correct. But Spoelstra is asking a player to do something he can't do in that situation. That's on him. The higher percentage move is to put a defender on Dirk who can at least try to force him into an off balance jumper or, better yet, force him to pass. Putting a telephone poll in front of Dirk that he can drive right around is definitely the low percentage move.

PLUS - they had a foul to give but didn't use it. That's on the coach as much as the players.

Of course the coach is not going to ask them to stop playing defense. But out of a timeout, the defense was set up by the coach, so yes, the coach is to be blamed.

Those years that the Jazz went to the Finals, Greg Ostertag's interior D on Shaq and Hakeem was pivotal, but he's otherwise a clear end-of-first-round, early-second-round talent. Fess could be similar if he'll clue in and focus.
