Mitchell voted as top rookie by fellow nba players

Ehh, it's nice, but have you seen how NBA players vote on other things regarding the NBA? They have some pretty dumb opinions.
They are heavily influenced by personal experiences against the players... they probably don't have the time to watch the other 78-80 games of the players. So I bet our players for example think Lillard is MVP since he's been torching us for the last several years like nobody else.

This is great news for our franchise. We needed a player who other players respect and might want to join. This vote along with our team's success this year bodes well for the future.

They care about stats and scoring above all else. I'm sure 90% of the NBA would consider Cousins a better player than Gobert.

Nah, I think they are right, but I think they are always bias towards scoring and it's not always indicative of who is the best.

Isn’t that the hardest thing to do, be the #1 option, and then do it as a rookie? I think this is what other players see.

Yeah, but players also thought the Hood trade was great for Cleveland because Hood takes and makes hard shots and scored a lot of points. Players just typically overvalue volume scoring among their peers.

Is that player reaction from when the trade was made, or now? If I recall, Crowder wasn’t having a good season at all, and no one thought Hood would turn into a bench warmer.

When the trade was made. Players overrate scoring. It's why coaching is hard.

This is the most important part. Donovan went to Europe with Ekpe and just happened to bump into Bjelica (wink, wink). Who knows who else he has been talking too. And look at the kudos opponents were giving him after games, especially the superstars in the league. Now I'm not saying those stars are going to leave their teams for Utah. In fact, maybe they're all telling Donovan to pressure Utah into trading him to join their respective teams. But it does show Donovan has "arrived." And with such a positive and infectious attitude, it's hard not to imagine some very good FA's at least having Utah on their radar (as happened with Mirotic).

From what I’ve seen Donovan literally knows everyone...especially the generation around his age. In all honesty NBA players are going to make decisions based on them not their friends though. People act like we need a major free agent. We need a decent shooter and a couple minor tweaks and the Jazz are a contender. Donovan is going to get better. He’s goinf to be a super star caliber player that can take you there with decent players along side him IMO.

Also as a PS note. Rudy was also awarded this:

Agree, oneye. Another thing about Rudy and Donovan (which also holds true for Ricky and Joe) is that they're all unselfish. Honestly, I don't think any of them really care about stats. And that opens up the door for a scorer or two to come to Utah. We'd be a perfect fit for a player like Paul George and a shooter off the bench. Not going to happen with PG, of course, but any shooter would get touches with this roster.
