Following Potential 2018 Draftees

Isn’t the midrange shot the worst shot you can take. Isn’t threes and layups the type of shots teams hunt for? Allen isn’t the type of player you want taking 15-20 ft j’s Allen is the guy you want running defenders into screens, catch and shoot. I don’t see him as being a big usage player that will have much need to take midrange shots. Like Cy said, he’s a role player. If used any other way he probably will be a wasted pick, or do you expect the jazz to find another star?

It’s nice if a guy can score at all three levels but mid range is by far the least important... if we want mid range scoring we just get Ricky more shots.

Plus, I don’t buy that he doesn’t or can’t utilize the the midrange game.

Because the college court is so congested it’s kinda hard to get good looks in the midrange imo... nice if guys have a floater game...

I just think there will be 10 players I’d rather have where we are picking. Allen will be available later. I don’t think he goes first round.

I don't completely buy that the Jazz dont make promises.

They might tell them that they are strongly considering but I doubt it’s a full “we will take you no matter what” type of promise. Especially with the value they place on workouts and him not doing one in Utah.

I believe Tony more than the other guy.

If you guys could have anybody in this draft (regardless of draft projection), who would it be and why?

Doncic - cuz he’s a mother effing winner and will murder it in the nba. He works with almost any team which is a huge benefit in team building. I can’t believe teams are second guessing the kid.

Doncic... or Porter Jr if I KNEW he would be healthy. Because they are the best two players in the draft IMO. And both have attributes and skills we need - shooting and offensive creation. Doncic has a ton of playmaking too.

If the Jazz made an actual promise, they wouldnt tell anyone about it. The Jazz are tight-lipped. Not calling Tony a liar or anything, but I just think if the Jazz did promise (and I do believe it's something they are generally against and usually wouldnt do) they would do it very discreetly and just like how it's playing out now.

Think about it: He has a scheduled workout for Utah after his LA workout. He then plans to go home and make his decision about to stay in the draft or not. He ends up cancelling the Utah workout so he can go home early and decide. Since then he hasnt had any other workouts. At first glance your probably think "Oh, LA must have promised him", which is exactly what Utah would want people to think if they promised him. Since the Jazz dont do promises, then they would have to really really love a player to promise him. Love him so much that all they needed was an interview, measurements, and medicals they got from the combine, an individual workout wasnt necessary. The Jazz have a pretty good relationship with his agent. Yes, I know the whole Hayward thing, but Utah has gotten two of his clients paid and improved beyond their original projections. It would make a lot of sense for him to want his client to end up in Utah.

Here's a new site with info on the draft and scouting reports on prospects:

The guy is a long-term good RealGM poster and it seems like he's been in an NBA front office before. He dropped some Zhaire Smith and Lonnie Walker scouting reports on our Jazz RealGM sub-forum and I liked it, so... spreading the word around a bit, since there isn't much high quality content for free nowadays with Givony and Schmitz going behind a paywall.

Here's the guy's post on realgm with some info about what they will be doing(he's partnering with Frankie Vision channel on youtube to make scouting videos like the old DX ones):

Hey guys, I've been making draft profiles in the DraftExpress model with Synergy stats + video, analysis, and basic scouting reports. The above two links are on Zhaire and Lonnie, but I have others on Huerter, Justin Jackson, SGA, Robert Williams, and others. Frankie Vision and I are now collaborating on the videos starting with Zhaire onward (I'll be doing the scouting reports and video breakdowns, and Frankie will finalize the editing, add the music, etc).

Anyways, next up is Bags (which is in final production now), Doncic (almost done), and Anfernee (beginning stages).

Hope y'all enjoy! Spread the word!!! Could use some clicks.

About me in spoilers for those who want to know about my experience

A brief about me - interned in the front office of a team helping with scouting, stats and analytics, contracts, and with coaches when they needed. Before that, was scouted for D3 but ended up at Vanderbilt where I was going to walk on before senior year (12-13)...before back spasms came the day before the open gym. Then went to law school where I focused my studies on IP/contract related work.

Trying to get back...badly, so I've been networking (and working) since graduating. Spoke with execs/personnel in every FO and got some damn good responses on the stuff I've put out there. Heading out to Vegas during SL to watch games and meet with FO personnel. Hopefully I land a job with a team before (or at SL) and go from there.

Hope y'all enjoy! Spread the word!!!

Inconceivable!

I doubt it, but whatevs. What if a trade up possibility happens and a guy we love is available like Miles Bridges? How strong is that promise?

Making a promise to him would make sense because he was on the fence about going back.
