It's a sad day.

Guy travels the world on someone else's dime and has stories and experiences most folks here will never have and then he goes and offs himself.
Talk about **** you world!
It's not like if you make over $***,***, you won't kill yourself.
This guy was ok in my book. Shame to see him go so early.
Huh? Where did I mention how much money he makes? He clearly lived a fulfilling life with adventures most people will never experience and he still couldn't out run his own demons.
Money is the easiest way for most to understand "enriched life". It's hard to get that across... I'm sorry it came across incorrectly to you.
That's as incorrect a statement as it gets.
Happiness encompasses many reasons providing personal joy; money, hobbies, security, lifestyles... Money may be the driver for many but it's only one of the drivers. Many people find happiness in other forms. Biking, hiking, farming, rafting, charity, religion, animal shelters, tatoos, working on something, going out with friends, visiting family often, golf or bowling, building houses, keeping up a yard...
Money does nothing to convey "enriched life" outside the security aspect. If you have all the money in the world but no drive then what's the point?
I don't think you understand my statement. "It's easiest for most to understand" doesn't mean it's right. It only means it's easiest for people to see, or even imply from.
Fair enough but I think you are very wrong and taking a purely US capitalistic perspective on this. I think there is a book For The Love of the Game. Haven't read it but I imagine it encompasses how humans are driven. Money isn't the goal for many, it's a nice byproduct.
The true victims of suicide are those who loved the person who died. I know from personal experience, it can be incredibly damaging for many many years.Left a kid behind too.
Awful. Feel terrible for his family and friends.
Huh. That's the complete opposite of the impression I got, as well as what I've gathered from the accounts I've read from people he's met from around the world. He definitely can come across as a bit of a smug New Yorker, but I think he really did have a genuine curiousity and caring for the people he met and cultures he visited.I prefered Andrew Zimmerman. I thought Bourdain treated people with an underlying contempt that was unappetizing for me.
